Home Depot, Lowe's, Builder's Square, et.al. sell the rods as WELDING
RODS.

They are regular black steel rods. They will rust badly if not cleaned
and lubricated after each launch, but they do work well. If you want
stainless steel rods, check your phone book under "steel suppliers" or
such.

I found the longer rod!!  8->)

OK, the secret (at least for me) was in my local hobby shop.  Theu
usually call it music wire and it comes in several diameter sizes and 36"
long.  Thanks to the Hobby Hangar in Chantilly, VA.  These guys carried
the all sorts of stuff and very helpful "What a place"!!!!

Check your yellow pages for metal suppliers. They can sell you steel or
stainless rods in various diameters and lengths.

If you can't find anything locally, a mail order plcae we've dealt with is
Cardinal Engineering , RR#1, Box 163, Cameron IL 61423 (309)342-7474. They
carry all sorts of metal by the foot, K&S tubing, tools, drills, screws, and
even CNC machines. We ordered some launch rods for NIRA from them, and they
came in a nice PVC tube that we now use for storage.
