Skywinder and Lance Beta: how much nose weight

Post by Steven Roger » Mon, 19 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Howdy all,

I recently got replacement nose cones and weights for A Skywinder and
NCR
Lance Beta.  Trick is, now I can't remember exactly how much weight
should
go in each one.  My old skywinder nose cone is in a briar hedge, but I
still have the NCR cone (it split in several places on the first
flight).

I could sorta guess at the right amount for the Lance Beta by weighing
the old cone and guessing how much epoxy is in there - but I have no
idea for the skywinder.  They sent me nine ENUs (Estes Noseweight Units,
an ISO standard) of clay, which seems like overkill.

If anyone has an unbuilt kit and can just count the number of ENUs
for a Lance Beta or Skywinder, that would be super. If you know how
many grams of nose weight it really requires, even better.

Thanks,
Steve

IIRC, the Skywinder had one of those ENUs.  I have no idea for the
Lance Beta.

I belive the Skywinder takes 4 squares of clay. You definitely want it to be
pointing down when the blades deploy.

P.S. Don't shoot it up on an Aerotech D21-7 or higher. the little paper disc at
the end of the engine will be flush with the end of the body tube and it will
blow it to pieces. (Speaking from experience) :)

Well, I've built 4 of those SkyWinders in the last couple of years and
they all have had 2 squares of clay.
