Personal reconsideration

Post by Darrell D. Moble » Thu, 01 Aug 1996 04:00:00

To all:

After a serious reconsideration of my involvement in the newsgroup the
last couple of days, and doing some personal reading into quality of
life, etc., I have made the decision here to modify my behavior on this
newsgroup.  I don't consider this to be throwing in the towel, just an
expansion of my personal view on making a positive impact for the hobby.

I had made several statements to those I classed "The Dissenters" asking
them to stop their negative actions and take up positive ones.  After 2-3
weeks of harping on this, my position is now a negative one, in my eyes.

I believe that each of these individuals truly believe in the situations
they were/are engaged in and that they feel they deserve some justice.  I
can not jusitfy whether they will ever get satisfaction with their
situations, all I can do is promise not to aggrivate the situation.

John, I hope you get relief one way or the other in your situation.  You
seem to be a truly pure individual with good intentions.  I had stopped
reading your triology some installments ago, but would like to re-read it
once you are finished.

Bob, for whatever reason you were removed at TRA, I know it leave you
feeling defenseless when that happens.  I hope you get peace with it
somehow.

Dave, I don't know you, but I did pick at you.  Sorry 'bout that.

Jerry.  Even in this frame of mind, you still perplex me.  I don't think
I have ever met anyone with as large an ego problem as you have, but
maybe you can find some way of putting it to good use.  You do have a lot
of useful information you share regularly, but I suppose your snide
remarks to others is the price we pay for the good information you share.

Personally, I am going to post to requests for information, will respond
to serious questions directed toward me, while ignoring the jabs others
may take from time to time.  I encourage others to do the same.  To hell
with the flames, let's make this a desirous place to be.  Let's rise
above the petty bickering to act like the ***s our spouses, children
and parents would expect from us.  I know this sounds hoaky, but it's got
to be more positive than what we have be doing.

Lost in retrospect...

It doesn't sound 'hoaky' at all, Darrell.

My viewpoint has always attempted to be that problems are never solvable
until one understands the 'problem'.  Sometimes (but not always) 'anger'
can *clarify* many things.  But intelligence MUST rise above (and keep in
check) our own emotions - for only then will the solution be found.

We just need to be able to distinguish 'petty bickering' from the more
fundamental nature of some problems.  Not everything can be classed as
'politics'.  Solving *real* problems is NOT 'politics' - running from, or
avoiding those problems thru the use of deception IS what I (personally)
define as 'politics'.

I would venture to say that the great majority of us do not desire anything
but the betterment of our hobby.  To be sure, there will always be
disagreements on how that is best accomplished.  The *real* solution, and
betterment, of our hobby will come through recognizing the fact that each
one of us does, indeed, have a viewpoint - none any higher or lower than
the rest.

Getting right to it, huh?  ;)

Right now I have a camera payload that I'm designing for my two stage, parts
ordered for a 3X Trident, and I'm resurrecting my 5 1/2" dia Jayhawk for
Level II cert.  If anyone's interested, I would be more than happy to
elaborate on these projects.

Thanks, Jack.  I hope you were able to detect the serious and humbling
nature of my post.  I am tired of the negative exchanges.

What are you working on to fly?

Hooray!  I believe you've finally "seen the light", and I'm
NOT being sarcastic.  Hopefully the others who engage in
"flames" and "bickering" will also come to their senses and
go through some "behavior modification".  I personally feel
that this newgroup should be dedicated to the propogation of
USEFUL information...not accusations and political tripe!

What kind of camera are you using?  I'm using a Vivitar Opus 35, which is
very cheap, compact, and easy to modify but has a slow shutter and a
plastic lens.  I'm considering upgrading to something else like the Fuji
Discovery 90 (I think I got the name right) which has a 1/600 sec. shutter
speed.  Does Cotriss still sell first-surface mirrors, or is there a
better source?

BTW, thanks to all who offered suggestions on 29mm kraftpaper tubing--I
think I'll pick up some LOC tubing somewhere.

Dave.

The NAR has an online list of most of the flights being held around
the world. Even some TRA launches are listed when the event is co-sponsored
by a TRA prefecture.

Where does one find a 'schedule of launches'?  Are these only listed
in HPR or Sport Rocketry magazines, or is there some other central
location where launches are publicized (web page?)

Yes, I would love to hear more!  Tell me about the camera payload.  What
camera, what triggering device, special electronics, etc. that you are
using.  Also, have you considered transmitting cameras?  I have thought
about that.

Don't remember the Trident design, will have to get out the Estes
catalog.  5.5" Jayhawk, huh?  Sounds impressive.  What motor will you
use?

Myself, I am mentally designing a 2.56" to 3" Aerobee using 38mm mounts.
I have a 8.75" to 6" phenolic rocket, 18 feet I need to finish, as well
as components to build a 2/3 scale Black Brant VB or VC, using 98mm
power.

If you would like to check out my LDRS 2/5 scale Terrier-Sandhawk,
checkout: http://www.concentric.net/~ddmobley and let me know what you
think.

The Jayhawk has flown 4 times, three less than successfully.  It weighs
about 15 lbs, and has flown on I211's and I284's.  I've been plagued by
Ejection blowby and snapped shock cords.  Luckily, it can usually land
sideways (no chute) with little damage (just don't get under it!)

You can find Trident plans at sunsite...this one will be about 105" long.
I'm going for light weight; It will have a 54mm mount, but I want to fly it
on H and I's primarily.  I've determined that (from now on), only on HPR per
launch.....the rest G's and under.  I hate leaving a launch thinking "Oh my
God, how much did I spend?!)
