If these psychics were really any good, they would just get very wealthy
trading the stock market and wouldn't need to make their money this way.

If these Psychics were any good they would know the exact email
addresses of all who would be interested in this crap, SO WHY ARE THEY
POSTING IT HERE ??? Duhhhh....

On the serious side, SPAMMING on the USENET is growing exponentially. By
the end of the year, the only usenet groups that will still be useful
will be the moderated ones, therefore, I think we could use some
moderation in this group.  All we need is a robot to screen posts for a
few words and/or ISP domains and reject those that end up on a
"blacklist" maintained for the group.  For instance the messages
containing the words "psychic", "***", "superlink.net" and so forth
could be automatically rejected.  The only action the moderator would
need to make is updating the blacklist.

While you may argue that the number of such SPAMs is still relatively
small on rec.models.rockets, it is growing, and action needs to be taken
before people start leaving the group because of this crap. Low volumn
news groups, like rec.games.computer.xpilot, have already reached this
situation where the SPAM:On-topic ratio is almost 8:1.

Lead the fight to take back the USENET from these heathen SPAMMERS !!!!!

I was wondering about this myself. I am receiving an incredible ton of
spam e-mail on my work account, and it's starting to appear on my home
account. I agree that within a year or two, many internet boards are going
to be swamped with crapola e-mail advertising. I have no knowledge of what
we can do about this, but something needs to be started soon. I love this

Well, I think the spammers are digging their own grave.  The ISPs are
ganging up on them already.

Except for ***promotions.

I sent a complaint to ***promo.com about spam, and they had the gall to
try to sell me their filtering software!

At the very least, we should make it clear to everyone spamming from
***promo.com that we intend to >avoid< their products simply because
they advertise via spam.

***promotions, especially.  ***promotions has to rely on other ISPs to
route their junk mail.  If they***off too many ISPs, their junk mail
is not going to get delivered.  For instance, my ISP has cut them off
completely.  So have others.

I have heard that there is a better response to spammers than simply
scrambling your email address.  Why not replace your return email
address with the postmaster's address instead?  That way the spammer's
address-gathering programs will suck in the postmaster's address along
with everyone else's.  They will then hang themselves when they send
all that garbage to the postmaster.

Is this possible?

It's certainly possible, and it's not very likely your postmaster will
catch on who's getting him all this spam and cancel your account -- but
it won't really help.  The postmaster who >needs< to get the spam, with
an attached note about why it's offensive, if the one at the originating
system, and you don't know who that is until you get the spam.
