Estes Maniac Parachute Size]

Very interesting, my Maniac came with an 18".  Nevertheless, I replaced
the chute
with a home made (black trash bag 8 point 15" chute with a 2.0" dia.
spill hole)
chute.  The original 18" gave it too much drift (but nice hang time).  I

personally feel that Estes 6 point 12" chutes are too small for the
somewhat
fragile plastic fins.

Since the motor hangs out the back of the rocket a bit, the landing
force should be on the motor mount.  The fins don't sweep back where
they will hit first unless there's quite a bit of wind...and it
shouldn't be launched then anyway.  The maniac I have has never been
damaged, and I use a 12" chute with the black estes logo cut out.  If it
had a fin can like the new RTF starter sets, it would probably break the
first flight!
