A few comments about some fun motors (and proof I am an idiot)

(If you happen to read alt.smokers.cigars, you'll see this exact post.
Duh!)

A few of the KRA folks went flying on Superbowl Sunday, and a couple of us
used some F62 Darkstar motors.  We were very impressed.  The igniter
retention cap is superbly done, and the igniter is a heck of a lot better
than a crapperhead.  Both F62's lit without any chuffing at all.  My
Certifier, a 4" Phantom 4000-like rocket, was perfect on an F62-4.

Then, I popped an Apogee E6 into my Impulse Aerospace Check 6.  What a great
flight.  In fact, it may have achieved orbit, because even with binoculars,
it went out of sight.  Maybe someday I'll find it again.

If you have a chance to fly either motor, I highly recommend them.

Craig,

How well would the Darkstar's fit (width is all I'm concerned with) in
a LOC 29mm motor mount tube? I've looked at them in the local shop,
but I haven't seen one out of the package and up close yet. It's my
understanding that they have a smaller diameter?? Is it something that
a few wraps of masking tape could cure?

Thanks,
Jeff

Yup.  The darkstar F62 is a match made in heaven for a Lil' Nuke.  (LOC)  A
little tape to snug it up and then tape the thrust ring on to the exposed
MMT and let er rip.

I have flown them in loc's stuff before with
no problem, just have to friction fit, if you
do not have any motor retention.

Howdy
In a 29mm single use motor the Aerotech G-125 is the King. Long Live
the King.

Howdy
There are bigger & more poweful. But for the money & size. The
Aerotech J-350 kicks ass.
I know all about bigger rockets but they lose that instant fly away you
can get with smaller OD rockets. Use 30 minute epoxy & heavy pellets to
increase nose weight as motor is fairly heavy. You can get them for less
than $40.
They are alot of motor for the money. Put inside 1.5" diameter rocket.
You better have your construction done pretty good. 10k' easy
