Prayers needed please

Post by Julie Lorin » Wed, 14 Feb 2001 12:48:52

Hi ladies,

I was talking with my sister today (she's a nurse) and she told me that our
mother may have skin cancer.  Apparently my mom showed her a mole a couple
weeks ago and it was pink in color, NOW it has grown significantly and is
all different colors.  My sister has stressed the importance of going to the
doctor before it gets any worse and my mom is putting it off.  I asked my
mom today when she was going to the doctor and her response was
"eventually."  Now I know there is nothing I can say or do to MAKE her go,
but I can pray for her and that's the reason for my post.  It doesn't help
that Mom is unemployed and is totally depressed.  It's heartbreaking to see
her so unhappy. Thanks so much - I'll keep y'all posted!

Julie, I will keep your mom in my thoughts. Do you or your sister live
near her? Can you make an appointment for her and then take her to the
doctor? You can't trust a depressed person to go to the doctor but
sometimes you can bully them into it.

Actually yes, Mom actually lives with my sister right now, so that's a good
thing.  My sister is pretty insistent that she go to the doctor and so
hopefully that'll be enough motivation for her to go.  My husband, son & I
are going to Corpus this weekend to visit, so she'll have her daughters, all
her grandkids and 1 of her sons-in-law around, so hopefully that'll help her
too.  It's really frustrating for me, because I can't make her do something
she doesn't want, but if she catches this early enough she shouldn't have a
problem, from what I read.

Thanks for your prayers!  I truly appreciate them!

I'm praying right now that the Lord who loves her will meet every need she has
and give her wisdom to make good decisions.

Thanks y'all!  I appreciate it very much!

My sister told me she thinks its Basal Cell Carcinoma, which would be good
news.  Apparently that kind of skin cancer does not spread.  Let's hope if
it's cancer at all, its that!

Julie.. Kandy's response was exactly what I had in mind. Make her an
appointment and take her. Depression kind of goes with the disease.
Before my own diagnoisis of Cancer I was so depressed and coud not
really understand why.  My family (my two daughters) insisted I go  and
I had Cancer.  I won't go into detail but after surgerey, chemo and other
medication,I feel like a new person and all the prayers and loving
thoughts of my family and friends gave me courage to hang in there and
do battle. I'll keep you and your Mom in my thoughts..Take care.

"I was so depressed and coud not really understand why."

If anyone is feeling this way, and has felt this way for more than two
weeks, PLEASE see your doctor!!!  Depression is caused by a chemical
imbalance in the brain, and if you're feeling sad and you can't understand
why, and you've been feeling this way for more than a couple of weeks, it's
very possible you could be clinically depressed.  It's nothing to be ashamed
of - the brain is an organ and like ANY organ in our bodies, things can go
wrong.  You don't have to continue feeling sad and depressed and down -
there IS help available!!!

Hugs,
Joana
