For the past week, we've been having problems with our ISP that caused
the operation of The Model Train Magazine Index to be erratic. These
problems are now resolved.
The URL is:
We're very sorry for the inconvenience.
For those interested, it appears there's a bug in the Microsoft IIS
support for Process Isolation. The site is basically two .exe files, a
cgi command parser and a database program. When the new IIS Process
Isolation feature is turned on (which my ISP did without my knowledge a
week ago), evidently spawned programs erratically get command
lines/environment parameters passed to them. This meant that the cgi
program did it's work and then called the database program, but the
database program didn't always recieve it's parameters or envinronment
correctly due to this IIS bug. I got the ISP to turn off the Process
Isolation feature of IIS about mid-day Thursday, and the site has worked
fine ever since.
