DCC ready engines ?

Does anyone have a list of which engines have DCC ready frames (as in, no
cutting/modifying needed to solder in a decoder) ?

Atlas :
GP40-2
U25B ( new)
SD60
SD50
SD35
Tranmaster
B23-7

Kato
C44-9W
RS-2
RSC-2
SD40-2

All are plug and play.  You do not even need solder.

Thanks very much!

I've been looking at buying the Atlas RS-3, but wasn't sure it was DCC
ready, so held off. Now, I'll go for Kato RS-2's instead!

[I run only 4-axle units, which are rare in N scale, and DCC ready ones ...
well ...  let's just say I practically backflipped when I saw the B23-7
announcement - already have the first two on order!]

Well,. as you only want 4 axle, both the Atlas GP40-2 abd the U25B are  DCC
ready, and 4 axle if you can find them.

I have 3 gp40-2 and 1 u25b,    Remember, that is GP40-2, not GP40.
Although, you can order a GP40-2 frame to put in the older GP40 to make it
DCC ready.

That's exactly the problem -- I've chosen a very difficult path -
freelancing - and finding undecs can be ... painful ...

I know. I've got one of each (Geep 40 and a Dash 2) .. I've begun work on
the GP 40 frame to bash a Lenz LE077XF decoder in (I LOVE those decoders!
They're so small and yet to easy to work with, plus, my local hobby shop
has them!) .. but it will have to wait, since hopefully next week,  both
B23-7's will come in!!

I'll start browsing around for some U25B's as well - thanks for the hint!

Like I said, you can order the GP40-2 DCC ready frame from Atlas Parts and
fit it in the non-DCC ready GP40.

Item 486102, Mainfram Left 3.25
Item 486101, Mainframe Right 3.25

The only thing not there will be the brush contacts, which you can solder.
The DN146a decoder then goes right in, like the 40-2

Problem is Atlas will only ship ground.

NOT good since I live in Europe.

:-(

[May order a frameset regardless though -- but first gotta wait till next
month for money to come in - two loco's at a time stretched my budget!]

Yup, you can use the GP40-2 frame parts - but soldering the motor brushes is
really tricky!  Take it from someone who did it to 3 engines.  I spoke with
Paul G. at Atlas about this and he suggested I get the GP40-2 motor with the
different brushes or have a real steady hand - I went the later route and it
took about 4 weeks total before I got all 3 completed.  With the new LE077XF, I
would just drill out the area of the frame by the motor brushes and mill a
notch in the back end for the decoder.  A little solder, some black tape and
still some steady handwork should do the trick.  I just got some more LE077XF's
in the mail today - just was not in the mood to convert  more SD7's right now.
I got to get up early and drive 1 1/2 hours to a train flea market in La Crosse
on Saturday morning(my buddy and I have a seller's table).  Hope I clear enough
for some more of those Lenz LE077XF's.  I hope to get all of the operating
session engines 'decoderized' this season.
