I think last I checked the Walthers web site, they listed the due
date as Nov 1. They're usually not early - I have a feeling Athearn is
just aiming to release them by Christmas. I don't mind if they take their
time with this one, cause I want to see them to a really great job with
this model.

If these locos follow recent Athearn release practices, they will be 1
month late, and will be released at 1 stock number per month, in no
particular order.
I believe it would be wise for Athearn to release one of the Amtrak units
first.

I noticed today that Walthers has a pictured associated with their
listing of the upcoming Athearn P40. After getting all e***d, I noticed
that the model looks suspiciously like an Overland. Way too much detail
to hope for on the Athearn model. Looks like they tried to pull a
Bachmann.

It's an Overland all right. Those *** recessed screens give it away.
To be fair, I would guess that the idea to use the photo was from
Walthers, not Athearn. As another guess, I would say that Athearn will
have test shots of the shell floating around Chicago in another week
or two.

If thats the case, it will backfire on them - sort of like Mercedes
running an ad for their new coupe but showing a picture of a Ford
Granada <g>.  Whatever Athearn does, it won't have the lame
compromises Overland does on every model just so they can say it's
"all metal".
