I'm a newbie at posting, so I hope I get this right...

A friend and I are starting plans to model the Uintah railroad in western Colorado, mainly because of the marvelous articulated Mallets that Sprague bought for the system. We've been stymied by the fact that every book that contains info about the Uintah refers us to a book "The Uintah Railway" by H. Bender which appears to be completely out of print. Does anyone know of a source for this book, or have one you'd be willing to part with?

By the way, I wasn't in at the beginning of the thread so this may bring it full circle, but I saw a BearWhiz Beer boxcar in the latest issue of Narrow Guage and Shortline Gazette...

If you can't find the book for sale, your local library (the University library,
apparently, in your case, but most public libraries as well) will get it for
you through Interlibrary Loan.  Since you know the title and author, ask
for the Interlibrary Loan desk at the library, give them the info, and you'll
have it in a week or so.

If your nose is big enough to pass large sums of money, try the Colrado
Railroad Museum in Golden CO.  They sell books related to railroading, and
specialize in Colorado Narrow Guage.  They may also refer you to a third
party.  Also check the back pages/ classified ads in Railfan and Trains
magazines.  As you may have surmised from my opening line, expect to pay
through the nose.  Books of this sort are, as a rule, collectors items
without respect for any useful content.  The museum doesn't discount, either.
Also, at one time the Uintah narrow guage Mallet was offered in brass, by
North West Short Line if I remember.  Cute little critter- I painted one
for a guy in the local club years ago.  Expect more nasal agony if you go
looking for one.
