I had a case of Sanyo 800AR (800mah) cells that I got from a factory
overstock.... never used, but quite "long in the tooth" as regards
shelf life.... made up a few packs for my Cap232 but found they only
had a capacity of about 500-600mah....sooooo... I carted them off to
the local ni-cd store (yup, we really have useful stores down here in
Florida!) for re-cycling, and bought some new packs made to order....
4 welds on each end of the straps, and 22 ga. wire... what I bought
were two 5 cell 800AR (800 mah) packs for thier great fast charge
capability, at $24.99 each, and, as an experiment, two NiMH packs with
cells of the same size and weight.... they're supposedly Sanyo?...
Green sleeves.... 2100 mah !!!.... $39.99 each...... my intention is
to put one of each in my dual-switch-ala-Red setup.... both will be
exposed to flight use and environment.... I'll keep a close eye on the
state of charge of the 800 pack installed, in case the NiMH decides to
go belly-up.... that way the plane won't.... my intention is to get
an idea of the performance and longevity and durability of the NiMH
for starters, I did 3 cycles of 1/10 C charge (16 hours) and 1/2 C
discharge on all 4 packs.... that's 400 ma discharge on the 800 packs,
and 1.05 amps on the 2100 packs.... 80ma and 210ma charge,
respectively.... the 800 packs both gave 2 hours, 8 minutes after the
3rd cycle... the 2100's 2 hours, 14 minutes (that's 2345 mah !!!)...
will keep ya'll posted...
