How much do twin gas engines cut down on vibration?

Thanks in advance,

A little, but they really reduce the thickness of your wallet real well.

Yeah, but they only reduce the vibration at full throttle.  At idle, they
STILL bounce around!  However, they sound neat and are cool!

It really depends on the twins and singles you are comparing.  For
example, the D&B 3.7 or 5.1, Spehar 4.6 and BME 4.6 are some of the
smoothest engines around, bar none. But many of the 3Ws and bigger BMEs
vibrate as much as most singles.  On the single side, the singles
available from J&A Engineering are smoother than average for singles
(approaching the smoothness of twins), yet some of the other singles I
have seen will shake a plane apart at idle.

Hey Paul - have you ever run the 3W *four* cylinder engine (160cc) ?
I couldn't believe how smooth that thing was. Awesome.

I haven't owned one, but I have seen two of them run.  You are right,
they are real smooth.  Now if we could only get some four cylinder
engines that are as light as our singles or twins, that would be great.

Paul,

Do you have a web-site/contact info for D&B or Spehar?

Thanks,

Gregory Preston

The website for D&B is: http://www.dandbengines.com/   ask for Ken
Baker.  He is a great guy and real helpful.

Nelson's is: http://www.nelsonhobby.com/  I didn't buy my Spehar from
them, but I'm pretty sure they are the ones advertising the engine in
the RC magazines.  If not, I have my Spehar information at home and will
try to remember to dig it out.

Generally, twins vibrate about 1/10 as much, if it is an opposing twin. While
they do not make as power as the same size single, the sound is much more to
scale and quieter.
