Help with Yates American lathe

Post by Ted Evan » Sat, 30 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Is there anyone in the group that is familiar with a
Yates American TV12 wood lathe? I'm looking for
a parts manual or some instructions on how to dis
assemble the head. I have removed all of the bolts
and screws but it does not come apart easily and
I don't want to chance breaking something. If you
have some info or could point me in the right
direction, I would be most appreciative. I have done
a search in DJnews and also on the web but have not
been successful.

Thanks

Ted

Help with Yates American lathe

HI Ted:

I Just finished rebuilding a YA J70 series lathe with the variable speed
drive.  It was/is quite a machine.  The headstock has 3 main bearings,
with a machined cylinder inside the headstock.  There is set***at
the top of my headstock (just over the inboard spindle) that let me tap
out the machined cylinder.  Once  that was out, the rest was pretty easy
to disassemble and put new bearings on.  BUT, I did have to go to a guy
here in Denver for the right tools.

I have a jpg of the YA J70 series headstock that i got from Greg Bilbo.

if the TV12 is the same.

Also, YA was purchased by Garet Broadhead.  They have a web site ( they
make school supplies) and they may some (VERY little) info.

Email me if you need more help, I will see what I can do.
