Hello
This is my first batch of peach wine and I was what it should smell like?
My batch has a wierd smell to it maybe its just the yeast. I want to make
sure it isnt bad. Well thanks in advance for any help.

Rig,
Are you an experienced winemaker, or is this your first batch
altogether? I'll assume a beginner, but forgive me if I'm wrong.
I haven't made peach in decades, but fermenting wines always smell very
different from the raw ingredients or finished product, especially to a
beginner. Sometimes they it takes quite a bit of trust that they'll turn
out OK, but they almost always do. As long as you practiced basic
sanitation, etc., and the fermentation is tooling along, things should
be fine. You'll probably be amazed what it tastes & smells like in 6 mos.

Rig:

I just bottled my first batch of peach, and I can tell you it
doesn't smell too good when you first start out. For a couple of
weeks, one of my bathrooms where I kept the primary fermentor was
pretty rank. Is smelled like a peach farted. Slowly, the smell
subsided and it trurned out allright.

I was getting a little worried that the smell wasnt natural. Thanks for the

Does it smell like rotten eggs (sulfer) ? One of my first batches was
an apricot and peach wine, after primary fermentation it REEKED.
Treated it by airation and copper sulfate treatment, and now all if
fine. More info in on-line, but basically rotten-egg smell must be
treated as soon at possible. I think I didn't wash the fruit enough.

Apart from that, most fruit wines in the primary fermentor smell
pretty weird. No worries.

Yep, there's been some odd smells with my fruit wines too, but they usually
go away.

When did you make it? Peach wine should age at least 1 year before
drinking. I made some 1 1/2 years ago and it smells and tastes great. It
only has a slight peach after taste, and goes very well with fish, poultry,
and other light dishes.

My peach wine is still in the secondary getting ready for the first rack. It
just started out smelling real bad in the primary.
