"Pruning Grapevines:A Hands-On Workshop" is being offered by University of
California, Santa Cruz Extension on January 24, with January 31 as the rainout
alternative date. The morning session will be a classroom discussion in
Cupertino (San Jose). The class then adjourns to a vineyard site in Saratoga
for an afternnon field session. Class participants will perform the pruning
operation on world-class Cabernet Sauvignon grapevines under an instructor's
watchful eyes. The course is specifically geared for novices and home
practitioners. Since pruning is probably the most relevant vineyard operation
to yields and wine quality, this is a natural starting point to learn about
having your own backyard vineyard estate. Bring pruning shears, lunch, boots
and work clothes. Cost is $84.
