To all of you who haven't undertaken this exercise, get off the ball park.
The facts re: legality or otherwise are very, very simple. In europe AND
America if you read your history books you will find that Home distilling
was made illegal simply to ensure that sufficient legal spirits were bought
to provide funds, through applied duty - (Tax),to pay for troops to make
war - seriously!- Absolutely nothing to do with safety of the product
produced. In any event 'Bad spirit' was produced by the unscrupulous to try
to get even bigger profits, - do you remember the case of anti-freeze in
olive oil a few years ago, same reason, (Greed),- same result, - poisonous
compound!
Those of us who make or who have friends who distil and have for periods
in exces of 50 years will all tell you that the ***put about by
authourity regarding bad *** are All False.
If you can make beer, you have sufficient knowlege of safety, clenliness
etc to enable you with appropriate equipment to make very good Spirits. I
know I am not wrong, and I know folks across the world who regularly
produce such spirits - you can even buy Po*** (Poitin, Pocheen different
spellings for the same material).Books to read:Spirits & Liqueurs,
P.V.Price;World Guide to Whisky, M.Jackson; New Bootleggers Bible avail
thru the Net.
