What are the advantages, disadvantages, to having a three bladed heli
versus a two bladed with flybars?

Advantages

1       More lift
2       Slower head speed
3       Looks scale like

Disadvantages

1       More sensitive in fast forward flight
2       More susceptible to wind gust

I would also immagine, more work (setting them up), more money (3 blades
per accident), more things to go wrong. (more complex parts)

Well they're actually LESS complicated Eric. No flybar or mixing system,
just links from the swashplate to the blades (unless you have a GMP
Legend)

How the heck to you balance a three blade system? Getting the blades the
same weight and CGs matched is easy but balancing the head seems like it
would be a nightmare. Is just one side heavy or two?, and which ones?
