Hi,

I am thinking of buying a model chopper. My local shop offered me first
to watch flying at a flight club and then taking a few lessons first.
Having done this, I want to buy a chopper and stuff. He has a 2nd hand
Shuttle ZXX for sale, with a Robbe/Futaba FC-28 remote. I'm not sure
what kind of servos are installed, but I guess they're ok. What I want
to know if the price looks right to you guys.

He offers a Shuttle ZXX with the above mentioned remote, with something
he calls 'autopilot', a gyro etc. for about $1100. Is this price OK or
should I look somewhere else. I would also like to know if this really
is a great model for beginners.

Please advise what I should look for to be sure I get a good deal...

Regards,
   Michiel

That price is high for a used one.  My used zxx cost $500, with futaba
8uhf, starter, engine, servos, ready to fly.  Look on e-bay.
I can get a new outfit for 1100.  Including an updated xmtr.  jr 8103 is
very nice, or futaba.
With a used one, I found gummed engines, shafts worn, (the tail was
shaking), replace the tail belt and adjust before you fly, mine broke!
the Raptor with all bearings, or Hirobo zxx are both excellent.
I flew both.  But since your going to crash more often as a beginner,
then a used outfit under 600 is good idea, as long as the xmtr is good.

You can get a Hirobo direct from Jeff Green, model rectifier corp.
732-225-2100.  No shipping, no sales tax, 10% less than any wholeseller.

Definately too high.
Look to spend about $600-$800 fro a NICE use setup.

Seems on the expensive side to me.  We're talking US dollars here,
right?

You should be able to get into the hobby for less than that.

Raptor + engine = 350
6 Channel radio = 250
Piezo Gyro = 100
Total for a new heli = 700

Then you'll still need an electric starter, starter battery, starter
battery charger, glow warmer, and fuel.

Still under 1,000

At first look I would have to agree that the price may be high, however you
did not say where in the world you are.   Here in the USA we are spoiled
with lower prices on most stuff so if you are over seas then this price
might or might not be better.

Here in the USA you can get the Shuttle ZXX kit with a enya 35 for about
450.00, just to give you an ideal.

These pricings are from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Could anyone tell
me what I would spend on a new Shuttle ZXX in the US, including the
FUTABA FC-28 RC. I do not need digital servo's, but the next best thing
will do. Also a gyro, autopilot etc.

I'll be Vegas for the Comdex in november. Does anyone know of a shop in
Vegas where I can look for models or spare parts?

Regards,
   Mikey
