Collective Pitch Question Specific to the Nexus 30

Post by Visio » Wed, 19 Aug 1998 04:00:00

I have rebulit my nexus after a recent incident, any help with the
following questions  qoule be grand. I have a Nexus 30 standard kit.

I am having a hard time rebuilding it and getting the collective pitch
correct.

What is the distance you have between the bottom of  your swash
plate and the top of the main mast bearing?

What is the length of each control rods connecting to the: hiller lever,
pitch rod, flybar etc.?

What is your low, neutral , high stick  set to?

I ask  all this because I have used the specs in the manual but can't
come close to what the collective pitch is suppose to be with the
control rod lengths they list.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Visions

Well Visions it's a fixed length. Fixed by the two links coming off the
elevator bell-crank. As these are also the swashplate anti-rotation
links you can't get it wrong (unless you've made your own).

The rods connecting to the Hiller lever  are made to the same length as
the distance from the swashplate upper ring balls to the centre of the
fly-bar. They both need to be identical in length.

Pitch rod lengths are made long enough to give about 5 degrees positive
pitch at the blades when the pitch slider/mixer base is approximately
60% up the shaft.

Depends on where along the learning curve you are.

For starting out -2 low, +5 hover, +9 max

Vary the low to suit your taste. More negative makes for a more
collective sensitive heli and vice-versa.

Bottom of swash plate to top of main mast bearing - 5 mm

Length of control robs from center of ball to center or ball
  1.  Collective servo to collective arms - 11.7 mm
Can't provide the other control rod lengths unless you are flying the Zeal
metal head unit.

Collective range
  1.  Throttle Hold activated: +12 to -6 degrees.
  2.  Normal Flight
       a.  Low  0 degrees
       b.  Mid  8 degrees
       c.  High 10 degrees
  3.  Idle Up 1 (Mild Aerobatics, rolls, loops, ...)
       a.  Low -4 degrees
       b.  Mid  8 degrees
       c.  High 12 degrees
  4.  Idle Up 2 (Inverted Hover)
       a.  Low -6 degrees
       b.  Mid 8 degrees
       c.  High 12 degrees

These settings work for me running a heavily upgraded Nexus SS with an OS
32SHX burning 15% synth turning Helimax 515mm wood blades.  Average air
time with an additional 2oz header tank is about 15 minutes.

Your best source of set-up info is with Ray Hostetler's "Radio Set-up and
Flight T***" video series.  The phone number to order the tapes is

Dale,

What are the throttle settings you use with the Pitch ranges you list below?
