I haven't been reading posts much lately....so pardon me if this has already
been brought up, but I noticed that there is no helicopter section in the
latest edition of the AMA magazine.  Is Mr. Tradelius not feeling well or
something like that, or has the AMA just further abandoned we helicopter
pilots.  Our AMA sactioned club of which I've been a member for the last 7
or so years finally voted to ban helicopters from the club, and the AMA was
no help to us whatsoever with the problem.  Just kind of ticked me off to
not see even a word about RC Helicopters in the mag this month.  Seems like
just one more knife in the back of a large number of AMA's members to me.
You'd think they could have a little more about RC Helicopters in the
magazine......Lord knows there's enough stuff in there about ***band
powered planes to ***a horse!
Sorry.....just had to vent a little frustration.  :o)

Well, it is not the first time the heli section is missing.  I don't care
very much about the article anyway because it is worth very little to read.
Most of the time the section is only about the safety and new products.

Stephen,
I agree that heli's should get more coverage in the AMA mag.  The
elimination of the Paul's column has happened more than once, usually explained
by him in a following issue.  Sometimes he just isn't able to get a column
written in time.  My thoughts are that AMA should have a "stand-in" or guest
columnist to fill Paul's shoes when he can't or won't fulfill our needs.  I
gave up on all heli rags in favor of spending that money on more fuel and so
far I haven't regretted it since.  It is fun to pick up a mag every now and
then and see the adverti***ts...for the sake of seeing how our money is spent
to promote the products "they" command so much for.  The AMA mag is a freebie,
and worth reading for some of the rules content, but again, not much heli
coverage, I agree.  RC Heli pilots are like smokers nowadays.  Nobody wants us
around unless they are one also!

Well the OLD stuffy and not so stuffy at our field are getting nervous, When
I started there was NO seriously frequent heli flyers (club of 150), Then I and
another started to learn with no help at our field, Now one year later there
are
over 20 active heli flyers and seems like another every week, and did I mention
our new AMA club president doesn't even own a plane, We are taking over !
So in our area heli's are growing fast, very fast.

I have, over the past few years, wrote for Rotory Modeler and Model
Helicopter World magazines. Probably a total of 8 or 10 times. During
this same time span (3 to 5 years) I have approached Jim Haught,
Executive Editor for Model Aviation, about doing event coverage and
articles. He shot me down every stinking time. Not that I'm a good
writer mind you, but never haven taken the opportunity to look at my
work, Mr. Haught has no way of making a decision!

There coverage of the R/C helicopter segiment, of the hobby, is truely
a joke.

On a lighter note, check out that scratch built Sikorsky CH-54A
Skycrane on page 9. Truely awsome!

I'll tell ya what's going on!
The AMA and it's magazine are run by a bunch of stuffy, old, grumpy, biased
plankers!
Eventually they will all die out and there will be some equality, although
it might take 20 or 30 years.

There is rarely any coverage of any heli events.  I have not seen anything
about the recent heli world championships in Poland, yet they'll write up a
4 page spread on some stupid fun fly.  On occasion there is a heli article
in which case it sucks 9 out of 10 times.
I don't think I've ever seen a heli on the cover. If there ever was one,
then 1000 planks to 1 heli picture is not acceptable!

I'm sick and tired of seeing crusty old fart articles about control line
***& slow flight.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love planes almost as much as helis and if the
AMA was truly non-biased the I would have no problem donating $1000 per year
toward the cause.  There's no way I'm going to give them any money just so
they can support clubs that discriminate against heli pilots.

I'm sure there are plenty of heli pilots that would be willing to write for
the magazine and cover different events.  I'm also sure that the AMA doesn't
give a ***about them.

I HAVE ALWAYS HATED PAYING FOR AMA
WHICH IS JUST A SECONDARY INSURANCE

I e-mailed the mag. and Paul
Told them that i was unhappy with the mag.

I read the fine print and it says that $12 of your $48 fee is for the
magizine!!!!!

I don,t want the mag.
Why aint my dues just $36 and they can keep the mag.   I just use it to
start my fire anyway.

The reason they have trouble getting ads is that the companys that would
advertise also agree that there money is wasted on a biased mag.
Heli companys anyways

I am pretty sure that there is an option to not get the magazine for a lower
price, but I am not sure of the amount. There is quite the lengthy thread going
on over in rec. models. rc. aircraft that is discussing this topic.

Well, keep in mind AMA has to please a lot of folks with  different
interests.....  How aoubt the article on how to save money by
recycling your *** bands used on a trainer by cleaing them in kitty
litter, and then testing the stretchability of each one...  Now that
was worth the paper...

Or..  When was the last time you saw a control line carrier combat
plane?

Control line combat? Anything!

I thought the heli column was just supposed to be in the mag every other month.

I understand what your saying, however there are several U-control flyer's
and even some u-control combat flying at the Scoby field in Houston TX.

I watched them fly once, while I though that basic u-control flying was
boring, the combat looked out standing.   I have flown RC combat and that
has a large amount of pucker factor.   Now limit these same planes to a
sixty feet circle and only control them with two small wires, all the time
trying to keep your wires from winding up with the other flies wires.   I
though it was pertty cool till one flier cut the other fliers wires and the
plane arced up and then bank down over the top of "My Truck", it missed my
truck by a few feet,    My truck was about 200 feet from the flying circle
But then our heli's 'NEVER' have radio problems and get away from us  ;-)

I think the AMA nagazine is a joke!  With 98.5% of it being plank flying there
is very little relavance to helis.  I wonder why that is, does anyone know?

Because 99% of R/C'ers fly planks?
