Wrong blade size!

Wrong blade size!

Argh!

Just realised why my blade mysteriously cracked! See "Went to
Sandown..." post.

I went to "Motors & Rotors" and asked for some SAB blades for my Concept
32vr. Wasn't sure what length or bolt size I needed so left it to them
to advise me.

They sold me 55cm blades and the tail rotor blade must have come up and
wacked it.

What comeback do you reckon I have? I specifically told them the blades
were for the Concept. If I have to buy another set of blades then that
means I have forked out 80 to get a set of CF blades for the damn heli.

Still they do look the business and I reckon the heli sounded quieter
because of them as well as being more responsive.

Wrong blade size!

Hi Richard,

You are lucky that you only suffered blade damage, if you had stressed the
machine at all i.e. rolls, loops, etc, the damage probably would have been
total.

The distributor of the SAB blades should have know better, after all he's
been in the business a long time.

The 32vr can take a MAX length of 53cm with a 4mm bolt, most people run a
51.5mm Main Blade to allow for slightly longer tails for better tail
response.

If we HAD made such a mistake we would put things right for you!

I don't think SAB make a blade smaller than 55cm, although I confess I am
not fully conversant with the SAB range. MS have a superb 51.5mm blade for
the 32vr, we also have sealed tip carbon tail blades also in 80mm length.

I hope you get things sorted out.

Best Regards

Sean

Wrong blade size!

Post by Richard Stree » Wed, 17 May 2000 04:00:00

Hi Sean,

Thankfully I am not into the aerobatic stuff yet so the contact was when
I was landing. But yep it could have been worse. Even on landing if the
blade had hit the side of the tail rotor it could have caused more
damage.

I bought the blades from Motors & Rotors and to give Dave Wilshere his
due he has said no probs, send the blades back and he will swap them
over for SAB 53cm ones. I will need to fork out for tail blades and have
the hassle of sending them back but hey ho.

Do you have a web site so I can check out the tail rotor blades you have
got? What performance improvement would I expect over the standard
Kyosho blades?

Cheers

Rich
