Same situation here - wife just can't understand why I spend a bunch of
money on something that will probably crash and be destroyed.

My girlfriend thinks my planes and new heli are pretty interesting.  She is
interested in learning to fly a full scale plane and thought that by
building her own plane she would gain a lot of knowledge on how they fly.  I
couldn't agree with her more, so I gave her a Great Planes Big Stik 40 kit I
had in the closet to build.  Admittedly she hasn't finished it yet, but she
had fun putting the fuse together.  She is really looking forward to putting
the covering on.  Building the plane seems to be a necessary evil for her
that has to be completed before the fun stuff starts, the covering.  She
picked out a light purple Monokote and wants to cover it in white with
purple cow spots.  Hey, whatever floats her boat.

My parent hates me spending money in this hobby since it will crash
someday and get repaired and so on....hahah....
But my sister keeps bragging me to let her fly the heli, i jus tkick
her away and give her my 1/8th gas car.

My wife has no interest whatsover.

In fact, when we go to a show and see very experienced flyers doing 3D
etc. she is even less impressed "Why can`t they fly backwards and
forwards" says she.

I`m falling into the category of being an Anorak, according to her.

My wife bought me my first heli kit for Xmas. She enjoys going to the
field with me and watching me fly.
She's not interested in flying herself though.

You shouldent Kick you sister! ha ha  But seriosly you should consider giveng
her some lessons if your a seasoned piolot or maybih help her get her own
chopper . You never know she could become a dame good piolot! Ive known
several kids in the 7-12yr range that can fly circles around other piolots.

My whay varring responses to this "?" My wife and I had this discution 7
years ago, and I simply explained to her that we each have our hobbies and
the neather one of us should ever give them up for any reason. Some other
peapole have goten devorced over model airplains I think thats plain stupid,
but it happens. So my wife and decided as long as we can pay the bill's what
does it matter. Be sides she thinks ther neet! This winter or early spring
when I get the bilding room  in the basment ( fixing a basment wall right
now) done, she's going to bild her first plaine whil I put together my first
helli.

Great topic Glen

That sounds nice although it will probably stop you swearing when you crash
but if you do she can sympathise and allow you to spend some more. Plus I
bet it's handy for coffee and sandwiches.

Are you worried that she could be a better heli' flier than you some
day?
Maybe that's why you won't let her learn.
