Hatorri muffler (YS 61 st-2) and O ring problem

Post by lorne serp » Sat, 21 Aug 1999 04:00:00

After every couple/ three days of flying I have to replace the 2 *** 0
rings between the muffler and flange that mounts to the engine.  The shrink
and get very hard and leak very badly.   My heli is always a huge black mess
after flying.  I not sure how long the originals lasted, not more than a few
day I suppose.  I have tried ones from automotive stores and hardware
stores.  They always fit a little loose as the  originals did, you have to
work them in a little.  I've also tried silicone on them as well, but they
do not t work either.
Any suggestions would be great.  If none, how about a phone number for
Hattori.

PS anyone have luck with the KSJ muffler?  Looks like it may work better, no
0 rings.

>KSJ Blaaah ,, you will get a lot of vibration. OK here is what you

have to do with the hatori, fit another clamp on the front of the
muffler,, because when you put the o ring on with one clam the
vibration  beats it up untill it starts to leak. with two clamps the
muffler has no place to go, so the o ring will last longer, after the
muffler is attached put some red silicone around the edge, and that
should take care of your problem.

IMO, you are either running your motor too lean (which can happen with
the ST2) OR... the clamp (you are using a clamp, aren't you)is not
letting the muffler line up square with the exhaust mount.

Pete... I have 3 ST2's.... they don't leak........

This is a old thread.  There is a replacement O-ring made by someone

I've had the best luck with the o-rings from hatori .
Others such as from Hobbico or auto parts stores never lasted more than
a few flights. Ricks should have the Hatori o-rings.
