Does anyone have any links to 50s/60/70s console stereo's or phonos.  I
want to start collecting these and would like to know of any websites
that had them.  I had a 70's Zenith sound system (fully auto phono
(played too fast)), 8 track (sounded great) and AM/FM.

Also, what makes an old phono reproduce a 'tinny' sound on an old
stereo?.  My grandpa has a late 60s sears console.  I "restored" it,
fixed the 8 track, cleaned the knobs, installed new speakers, lubed the
phono/new needle but I can't get rid of that annoying frequency response
that the phono gives on treble notes.

No, it's not the records themselves because they sound fine on my
Pioneer turntable.

Would you describe the "tinny" sound on the phono as distortion?  Is it
especially irrating when a cymbal or percussion instrument is playing?  If
so, I have heard that before in some turntables where the cartridge (the
thing the needle plugs/snaps into) is either bad or not intended for the
needle being used.
