Shock Tower ......should I......

Shock Tower ......should I......

Post by Lee All » Wed, 18 Oct 1995 04:00:00

I have an RC 10 Team Car that still has the fiberglass (i think) Rear
Shock Tower. I was wondering if it would be wise to buy a new set of front
shocks, cut the rear tower to fit the front shocks, and mount them that
way?

I have also herd that a company used to make the towers already cut to
size but they went out of business. Is this true / if so does anybody sell
something that would work?

I race on an indoors carpet track in the open wheel competition by the
way.

This is quite a good idea for indoors, as it lets you move the shock
angles to about 45 degrees to increase rear roll stiffness. Bolink
used to make a kit to do this, comprising of new front and rear shock
mounts and a pair of tiny front shocks. That was about 8/9 years ago
though;)

If I am not mistaken.  You can get the effect of shorter shocks
buy loading your long shocks with travel limiters.  Or if you really want
to, the easiest way to mount the short shocks would be to find a piece of
fiberglass and make you own.  It's not that difficult.  I race my RC10s on
a flat carpet or in a parking lot with the almost exact same setup as on
the dirt with the exception of tires and gears.
