Kyosho Pure 10 engine problem

Hi all,

I have recently started experiencing a problem with a Kyosho Pure 10 (0.10
engine) car.

When cold (well within the first 1/2 tank or so) the car runs very well. After
that the motor starts to feel sluggish i.e it seems to bog down when
accelerating from a slow speed and the top end isn't that brilliant either.

Ive set the mixture to factory spec and played with it towards both ends of
the scale. If I richen it up, it still bogs but stalls when I take it off the
gas. Lean it up, it just stalls when I gas it.

The motor is about 15-20 tanks old and I am now running "Coolpower 15%". The
engine still has plenty of compression i.e the pull start feels solid and you
can really feel the compression strokes pulsing on the starter.

Could this be the glow plug? I have a few I regularly rotate through the
engine and I have tried a spare and it makes no difference.

Any ideas?

Any suggested bigger engines to try?

Rgs,
Peter

First of all, you might try a different fuel.  Cool Power is great for
airplanes, but I've had lots of problems trying to run airplane fuel in
cars, as it seems to make them run hotter.  Car fuel apparently has more
oil in it.  Switch to Byron Race or whatever kind of car fuel you can
get locally.

Second, rotating the glow plug serves no purpose.  Put in a fresh plug,
no idle bar, preferably an O.S. A3 or similar.  Use it until it burns
out or until the motor runs poorly, and throw it away if a new plug
restores proper operation.

It sounds to me like the engine is overheating on the airplane fuel,
which mine always did.  If you can't get any car fuel soon, try running
the engine richer (you should see lots of smoke, slow acceleration, and
some oil coming out of the exhaust).  You may have to raise the idle
speed with the***atop the carburetor to compensate for the richer
mixture.

Also check that there are no punctures or kinks in the fuel line and
that the carb, head, and backplate are on tight and not leaking.
