Help... My JR rx is acting up...

Post by Eric Sege » Wed, 05 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I have a JR XR3 and the receiver that came with it has all of a sudden
started acting up...

I have to literally hold the rx crystal down with my finger to get the rx to
send the signal and respond to TX... this happens with both sets of crystals
that I have... I opened the rx case and found nothing out of the ordianry...

Any Ideas....

I found a replacement for $59, but, for that matter I'd just as soon buy the
Novak xxl fm off Tower (backordered until Mid April, and beyond) but, if you
folks have a suggestion short of sending it away, (Next step) I'm willing to
try it...
I have to get it functional before Friday as we are going to San Antonio to
race Saturday Morning...

Help

Eric,
Make sure your contant "prongs" are squeeky clean. Check for any obstructions
in the xtal sockets of both the rx and tx.
Try to slightly and gently bend prongs together somewhat for a better grip.
Same as you would do with any regular plug to a household appliance when things
dont fire up.
Outside of that, make sure you have a good charge in the batts of both rx & tx
too.
BTW Eric,
I'm from Mich, but in my travels, I was in San Antonio on biz a few weeks ago.
Hehe, driving along, on the expressway mind you, I saw a  some Tx antennae
sticking up outta the corner of my eye. The reflections musta caught my
attention. I knew exactly what was goin on,  got off at the next exit, and sure
enough at the Super K store parking lot, there's a race happening.
The wife says,  "geezus could you smell that nitro as we're driving by at 70
mph?"
Got to spend a couple hours watching, and meeting some of my Texas racing
brethren. Nice bunch of folks.
Very organized racing set-up they have down there.
Of course I had to go  to the shop that organizes the whole thing and spend
some $$.
I'm sure that if you don't get it sorted out by Sat. someone at the track will
help you out, or even lend you a crystal set to race with.
As I said, nice buncha folks. Pretty cool track, too.
Good Luck,
Dan

After changing the crystals you should have eliminated the
connection problem. Cracked pc board under crystal plug?

Broken antenna plug. Could you fingers be acting a an
antenna? :Little far fetched but something to think about.

It's probably a bad solder joint somewhere. Could be the connection
between crystal plug and circuit board.
