Red = Very firm  (this may be an *** compund)  Hard to find and $$$

Orange=Firm

Blue= Medium  A generally good all purpose tire - most popular

Blue/Orange= The tire is actually half blue and half orange, with the orange
to the outside to provide good wear and the blue
                          provides good traction.

Green=soft  Wears quickly and can cone in one race but I swore by it as an
inside front for maximum cornering traction.  A decent rear tire if your mostly
wide open, otherwise it scrubs speed when cornering.  Wears quickly on the
rear.

Silver=low wear, soft compound.  Equivilat to green in terms of traction but
wears FOREVER.  I had a set on my SPEC car and they lasted more than 30 race
days which consit of 3 qualifiers and a main.  I got those tires used.
Expensive, but if you don't chunk tires (ever, at that price ;-)) they're
great.  Traction of a green but wears like red or orange.

Black=Ultra firm, I think.  Mostly used for concrete.  *** compound ($$$)

Pink= Uncertain as to firmness.  *** compound.

Generally speaking, the softer the *** the more traction you'll have but the
quicker it'll wear.  *** compounds don't tend to wear  but they're about $25
a set (mounted)

Hello Dave,
Here's the info I received when I asked soem time ago. I've made corrections
where warranted. Hope this helps.

According to Pro-Line, the compounds are as follows:

Standard Foams

Yellow - (soft) - standard wear
Green - (medium) - standard wear
    Blue - (firm) standard wear
    Blue/Orange - (firm) - high traction
    Orange - (firm) high traction

*** ***d Foams

Silver - (soft) - low wear
Gold - (medium) - low wear
Red - (firm) - ultra low wear

White - (soft) ultra low wear
Pink - (medium soft) - ultra low wear
    Purple - (medium hard) - ultra-low wear

Gray - (med.-firm) low wear, high traction
Black - (medium soft) low wear

The standard wear & high traction tires have less *** content. This makes
them wear down quicker, since they are mostly foam. The lower wear tires
contain more ***, and wear much better. But!!! They also weigh a good bit
more than the foams. They also need a few laps to warm up. Once they're warm
they stick really well.
I race stock pan cars on flat carpet ovals and like to run blue in the rear,
a blue orange on the outside front, and a blue on the inside front. Sometimes
I use reds on the front. Please write back if you need more info.
