Tamiya TG-10 Engine Upgrade Options

Post by DJ! » Tue, 05 Mar 2002 17:04:39

Hi all

Two quick questions:

1. What is the output (in HP) of the standard FS-12 Tamiya engine (as
supplied with the TG10 MK 1 kits)?

2. Has anyone in here done an engine upgrade that they've been
particularly happy with? I assume you also did the 2sp upgrade as
well?

Thanks for any feedback you might have

The output of the stock motor is 0.40bhp.  I beleive it is the same block as
the old HPI .12 FE

I've done the OS .12 CV-X upgrade.  This motor is 0.56bhp, easy to tune, and
very durable.  I purchased this one because of it's reliability and because
it's not too expensive.  If price isn't a issue, then I would go with a
Novarossi .12CX (1bhp, great motor) or a HPI Nitro Star Pro 12R SC Evolution
II (1.25bhp).  Just remember that you'll be needing a starter box if you
don't get a pullstart motor.

The 2speed upgrade is definetely a bonus.

Cheers,
Patrick

THANK YOU!   You have no idea how hard I've looked for that info
:-)))

I'm kind of a newbie (at the ripe old age of 28). I'm still trying to
understand all of this leaning out, nitro/oil mixtures, tuned pipes
etc etc etc   Simple would be good at this point in time! :-)

Here in Australia, that engine (with pullstart) is AUD389.95 (approx
USD195.00). How does that stack up against US pricing? I'm guessing
we're getting reamed as usual <sigh>

Do all of these upgrades just***straight in? I'm not much of a
handyman, so cutting away with a hacksaw/drill is NOT an option :-(

A shop here has also recommended an OFNA Force 12. It also seems like
a reasonable option at AUD210.00 (USD105.00). But I think the power is
only .56HP or something. :-(

Approx AUD85.00 (USD43.00) that I will fork out for sure.

DJ!,

check out http://www.FoundCollection.com/

Prices are good (for Australia) and service is excellent.
I recently bought an OS .12CV-RX with slide carb from them for $350 odd ....
supposedly 1bhp.

Regards,
Brad.

About 2 months ago I replaced the FS12 with a HPI Nitro star 15SS.
You won't be disappointed with that engine. Very fast and loads of
bottom end torque. It's also fairly easy to tune.

I'm also a 28 year old newbie.

Oh yeah, don't forget about the tuned pipe also.  Very good upgrade.

That's not too bad...  It's about $170 (plus or minus $50)  around here.

Yup, all of the motors are straight drop ins, no modifications.   Any
.12-.18 motor should fit with mods (except for big block .15 motors).

I haven't heard great things about the force motors, though. They are cheap,
but apparently don't last all that long.

Thanks for the tip. But just how up-to-date is their site pricing?
Looks like it hasn't been updated for quite some time in parts.

Will the OS .12CV-RX just slide right on in to my TG10?

So "one tuned pipe fits all emgines"?

That's something I've really been struggling to find answers on as
well. If that is the case, what the hell is it tuned to?   :-?

Thanks :-)
