Lots of Q's - Duratrax Maximum ST

Post by carnu » Tue, 29 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I am new to this group.  My past includes some fun summers with a Cox road
racer (down a line of string) when I was a kid (25 years ago).  Perhaps you
remember them; you pounded two nails into the road about 150' apart, and ran
a string between them and then raced the car down the string.  I looked
quite a bit for this type of car - but it appears they are no longer being
made.

Since I could not find the string racer I was looking for, I instead picked
up a Maximum ST w/Torq .12 RTR from Tower Hobbies.  I ordered it today and
hope that it arrives soon (they said it would take 2 weeks!!!)

I will be sure to break in the new motor per the suggestions I have read in
this news group.

I also plan to adjust the car so that the speed is limited a bit until I get
the hang of driving it.  This will also make it easier for my kids to drive.
I plan on doing all my driving at a local school sports field - thus
avoiding most crashes.

Should I thread lock all the screws I can (except the obivious) also?

Also - someone mentioned a throttle return spring - if the car does not have
one - should I try to add one in case there is a radio transmitter failure
at thottle?

Should I cut out the side and rear windows to allow for increased air flow?
I really don't care too much how the car "looks" - I just want it to last a
while (the reason I would not buy an airplace at my skill level!)

What spare parts should I order right off the bat?  I ordered 5 new glow
plugs - and some 10% fuel, but that's it.  Anything else?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Rob

no, only thread lock screws that are metal to metal, that's the only the
time it's necesary.

Throttle return springs are for slide carbs (you probably have a rotary
carb), so it's not really necessary, but i'm sure it'll help. You would
probably have to make one because i don't think anybody makes a throttle
return spring for a rotary carb, but if you find someone that does please
write me a email...

I'm no expert at airflow, but the more air that flows towards the engine the
better.

Did you remember to order the glow starter (thing that lights glow plug),
transmitter and receiver, kwit pit fuel bottle or fuel pump? As far as spare
parts, I have no idea because i don't have the truck.

hope this helps some...
