Should I get a Dremel tool or other brand

Post by Goon » Fri, 15 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Anyone out there have a tool other than Dremel?  I want to get the
router and drill press stuff as well... do the accessories that you
put the dremel in work with all of the other brands?  I assume all of
the bits are inter-changable.

Is the quality the same across the board.  I have seen a stanly,
craftsman, dremel etc.  Any thoughts?

I have the Sears Craftsman Moto Tool, and it is a Dremel, minus Dremel
stickers. I'm not sure on the Stanley, but the Sears unit is exactly
the same, with identical cases and everything. My Moto Tool has lasted
for about 5 years, and is just great:) I've got the router/drill press
accessory for my Dremel, and it fits both the Sears and a real Dremel,
and others I would guess, as long as they are the same shape in
general of a Dremel:) I forget who makes this accessory I have, but it
is OK, and I have used it a few times. I've never tried any model but
the variable speed model, and I love mine:) I'd like to get the flex
shaft for it, but maybe later!

Ive got a ryobi and mine is great. If I remember I got the Ryobi,50
piece acc. kit and the pencil attachment for the same price as a basic
Dremel. Any part for the Dremel will fit on the Ryobi even the drill
press.

I have the Craftsman, and like Broke said, it's exactly the same as Dremel, I
imagine Dremel actually makes it. If you catch it on sale, at SEARS, you'll get
a decent price also.

I have the drill press and router. The drill press is ok on small work like
plastics but it has a tendancy to "dance" around on metals and graphite. The
router is similar, good for light work.

QUALITY is never an accident. It is ALWAYS the result of high intention,
sincere effort, intellegent direction and skillful execution. It represents the
WISE choice of MANY alternatives. (unknown)

I personally like the pencil grinder that Harbor Freight sells. You can get
it on sale for $39.95 sometimes even with stones and carbide burrs included.
Which all is well unless you don't have an aircompressor and then you will
have to stick with the Dremel.
