I just need the flexible driveshaft that goes inside the Dremel flex-tool
attachment. Broke mine about 6 months ago and I need a new one! Anyone know
where I can get that without buying the whole $40 kit?

Any good hobby shop and/or hardware store should sell the shaft alone.
You can also try Sears Hardware.

earlier model GM speedocable--is similar and can be
used (one speedo cable is long enough that it can be used twice)
in place of the overly priced one that Dremel uses as a replacement
part. one of the ends will be square, the other end'll have to be cut.
I use a pair of ViseGrip brand sheet metal grips to shape the other
end into a square.I then insert that end into the main drive.
if you insert it the other way, it tends to unravel the wires that was
formed into a square with the ViseGrips.
I have the older version Dremal with a base unit.
