Looking for SW design 4 stnd glass window

Post by Patrick Defran » Sat, 25 Nov 1995 04:00:00

I have a 1 1/2 by 3 foot window above a French door in my apartment that
I would like to fill with stained glass.  I'd like to find some type of
Southwestern design.  Maybe a cactus in a desert with the sun setting or
some Aztec art or something like that.   If I can just find a design that
I like, I know someone who will custom make and install the window for me.
If I had any artistic talent at all, I'd create the design myself.
Even a book of photgraphs of different stained glass designs would be
very helpful.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Please E-mail me at

the way.  Thanks.  -Pat

Look for Jennifer Cole's books - she has two - I forget the titles but they
are good southwestern designs.  I prefer hers considerably over the other
books on the southwest, and I formed that opinion when I lived inTucson and
saw the raw material everyday.  You might even try to call her - she used to
work at Ochoa (pronouned o-choe-a) Stained Glass on Campbell Avenue in Tucson.
She also does custom design - and it exellent at it.  Mary

I have done several southwestern designs in stained glass.  The designs
lend themselves well to glass because of the color/contrast.  When I was
unable to find actual patterns, I bought a book on pre-Columbian pottery,
took a bit of artistic license in order to make the design conform to the
limitations of the glass, and the results have been stunning.  Another source
I used successfully was needlecraft patterns. There aren't very many around,
but if I can find them in Wyoming, I'm virtually certain you'll be able
to find them in New Jersey.

Good luck!  :)
