This year's Society of Glass Beadmaker's Society is having their annual
convention, called The Gathering, in Corning NY.

As part of that Gathering, Fibers and Fantasy is hosting a JURIED show for
ANYONE who uses HANDMADE GLASS BEADS IN FINISHED JEWELRY.

(FYI - I will be selling at the Bead Bazaar in Corning, NY 5/9/98 and at
Embellishment Show in Sacramento 7/17-19)

Fibers and Fantasy is located at 76 W. market St. in Corning NY 14830 --- DO

She is a beadmaker in Iowa (featured in Fire Mountain Gems catalog!).

The show will be held in Corning, NY - THE center of glass for the US!  It will
be held at the same time as the Society of Glass Beadmakers convention, The
Marquette International Festival, the Contemporary Art Glass Jewelry and Bead
Show (a juried show of SGB beadmakers) at the Rockwell Museum, the Echoes of
Ancient Glass All Members Glass Bead show at the Radisson Hotel in Corning, the
Big Bead Bash - Sculptural Glass Bead Show at Whitehouse Books, the Bead Bazaar
at the Radisson Hotel!!!!!

Here's the info from The SGB conference catalog (YOU'LL HAVE TO MAKE UP YOUR
OWN APPLICATION SHEET OR CONTACT STEVI FOR MORE INFO):

This is a juried show open to anyone who uses handmade glass beads in finished
jewelry.
All pieces must have handmade glass bead(s) as part of the finished work.
The handmade glass beads must be the focal point.
Submit three (3) slides (one image per slide) of finished wearable jewelry
pieces meeting these criteria.
Each handmade glass bead used in the finished piece must be identified with the
bead artist's name.
Mark the top front of each slide with the slide number and your name.
If you are accepted in the show, the work submitted does not have to be the
exact work in the slides, but must be of comparable quality.
All work must be for sale.
The designer will receive fifty percent (50%) of the retail sale price of each
piece sold.
The application fee is $15.
The application deadline is February 28, 1998.
Notification of acceptance/rejection will be sent by March 15, 1998.
Slides will be returned at the close of the show.

They ask you to send the following:
Sheet with your name, address, phone number, fax number, email address
and
a list of the 3 slides, with the bead artist's name, and a description of the
piece

Next, they ask you to make a checklist, and check off what you sent them:
Make application fee of $15.00 payable to the Society of Glass Beadmakers (SGB)
Mark the top, front of each slide with the slide number and your name
Send the slides, application form, and fee by Feb. 28, 1998 to:
     Stevi Bell

     Cedar Rapids, IA  52401
Make a copy of the completed application form for your records.

Type this at the bottom of your application form:
I understand that if I am accepted in the show that the quality of the finished
work must match the quality in the slides.  Fibers and Fantasy has a right to
exclude any work deemed not to be of acceptable quality.  Depending on gallery
space limitations, all pieces may not be displayed simultaneously.

Hi Ingrid - the Society of Glass Beadmakers just put up their website, so you
can contact them via the net at
www.sgb.org
There's membership information there.  It's only $35 a year - what a deal - to
be in touch with a lot of FUN people and fantastic beadmakers!

I know of a great glass class in Manhattan ,,
SA Bendheim    ...  wonderful store,, really helpful people

the instructor is Tommy "G"  and he has beginner classes on Saturday mornings,
and also one evening during the week.
the class lasts about 7 weeks, the price is about $150  and it's lots of fun
the store is located on the corner of  Hudson and N.Moore streets

I don't have the phone # avail at the moment.  but email me if you
