newsgroups questions

Post by Sherri » Mon, 29 Jun 1998 04:00:00

Hi Everyone, I'll admit it I have just started newgroups.  So I have a
couple of questions if someone would take a few moments and answer them
for me I would appreciate it.

1. Are there any rules I should be aware of?
2. How do I get rid of the stuff I have read?
3. When answering should I respond in this newsgoup or in private?

Thanks in advance!!!
Sherrie

Welcome Sherrie!  Here are my answers; others may have something to
add.

Be nice.  Don't spam.  Don't advertise things to sell.  That's about
it (I think).

With my newsreader, I highlight the header/s, then use my delete
button.

Respond to the newsgroup unless you are pretty sure only that
particular person is interested in the answer.  Many people respond
both to the group and via e-mail, to make sure the response isn't
missed by the originator of the thread.

One reason for a newsgroup is much like a radio talk-show--we like
hearing other people's questions and problems and getting involved in
the answers.
