Hi all
Did the question of what to do to identify ourselves as pc
newsgroupies at Arrowmont ever get settled?  All I ever saw were
responses that yes, it was a good idea, but then the thread seemed to
die.  Or did I miss some postings that settled the matter?  What are we
doing?

Patti  in Iowa (slightly taller than average at 5'8 1/2" and I add that
1/2 inch because that makes me taller than my older sister!)

family!<G> And my husband is only 5'8".  So, I'm the tall one in this
family too!

Patti
Well, I have a 1/2"  on you.  I'm the short one in the family at 5'9".
There's no problem in this house reaching top shelves.  Ha!
I didn't see that posting because I am very new to this group, mainly
because I didn't know how to find it.  Anyway, I thought I would bring
along a couple of my name tags I've made over the years for the annual
retreat in ***ia.  We usually make ourselves a name tag using some of
our canes or some new technique we want to try.  This year I decided to
carve my name and then filled it in with unbaked clay.
Anyway, name tags sure make it easier to learn people's names.

I  think I saw a posting that suggested wearing pins that look like
computer monitors.  Here it is -- I saved it --
Hi fellow Arrowmont attendees! I love the idea of a ID symbol for this
newsgroup. How about a PC monitor? Oblong of transparent, wrapped with
gray rope. Write your name/e-mail address with Sharpie Fine on the
screen??? Maybe there is room near the registration area for a bag of
extra pins for those who don't get it done/forgot to pack...? I don't
do canes but could probably handle a block of trans wrapped in gray,
1/4" thick slices, pin glued on the back....<VBG>

I'm the original poster of the monitor idea but didn't get any

only 14 people answered her request so far. There surely must be more
than that of us going???? I'm still willing to make a cane so our badges
are all alike but it might also interesting to see all the different
versions? Please make your preferences known? Cella in SD

Hi, guys

I think I read that we have to wear our official Arrowmont ID badges to get
fed and attend classes, so at best probably we should make a decoration for
those. Can I plead for something less complex than a design cane. PLEASE?! I
have looked over the stuff I have to take for the classes, and am trying to
create something for selling at the consignment shop and for swapping with
anyone who wants to do that, and I really don't have enough time to make
something very fancy. (That was the advantage to night-glow stars for
Ravensdale -- if you wanted you could simply cookie-cutter one!)

I DO think if nothing else we should all add our screen names (if they not our
"real" names) to the badges, so for example, when you run into Juli, and see
"Canebake", you know she's THAT Juli! (In my case, I think I'm the only Sherry
Bailey in the guild, although certainly NOT in the world! ;^) )

almost a jelly roll, even us NON caner's could do that!) and if crunched for
time, they could be drawn in clay and filled with another color, so at least
two options exist... something kind of easy, maybe? (If you have mucho time,
of course, you could embellish anything, and add your name and all that. I'm
thinking of the least common denominator idea! Too much to do, too little time
left!)

Well, only a suggestion! I'm getting butterflies in my stomach, are you?

Yep - Great big enormous ones with irridescent Mokume Gane wings that have been sanded &
buffed & shine beautifully - and their little fuzzy antennae remind me of the dust
bunnies taking over the world while I alternate between working feverishly and just day
dreaming about the trip.  Pretty soon they'll start flying in formation like the Blue
Angels (assuming THEY are more organized than I am at this moment)

I like the monitor idea fine.  I don't think you need to worry about
doing a cane for everybody -- let's see what we all come up with
individually.  Guess I'd better make sure I'm on Jeannine's list - I
don't think I did that yet.

I'm going the second half of the week.  How do I get on Jeannine's
list?  I think I missed something trying to finish my beads for the
animal print swap.  Anybody else in a dorm room?  That's where I ended
up.

I'm with Violette on this one!  I think this is an excellent idea, especially
since I'm out of time AND supplies.

THat sounds like the most sensible idea yet. Easy. Everyone has a
nametag that we have to wear anyway. Smart lady!! Just bring a big red
marker!! <VBG> Cella in SD

Hi all!
This is Marie Johannes here...Chairperson of the Registration Table
Commitee from Michigan.  We (Trina, Jean, Rhea and myself)  will be
arriving Saturday night also, staying at Arrowmont and apparently there is
a good sized crew developing for Saturday night. As far as the nametags,
go...I think 'time crunch' has you all on the right track.  Red dots seem
like a winner to me!  The screen names could be written in the center of
the red dot!...Yellow dots could be OK, too.  Blue and black ink might show
up better on yellow.  Not trying to confuse things! just thought.
Arrowmont staff will start manning the Registration Table Sunday afternoon
from 3pm --6pm..  It should be alright to leave dots of ANY color there.
My committee will coordinate with them and begin working in shifts from 6pm
until 9pm????  If any one would like to help us, just let us know.  This
would certainly be a good way to find your friends as they arrive!  We
don't want to miss ALL of the opening speeches and this great time to
kindle friendships.  Can't wait to meet you ALL.  Marie
