Arrowmont or bust from Boston?

I got my brochure and I'm going nuts because I want to go really, really
badly and can't afford it.  Is anyone in the so. NH/northern MA/Boston
area crazy enough to car pool with me to Arrowmont?  I think I can manage
doing the Wed.-Sat. 1/2 week group of classes--also--I own a timeshare
that has a number of exchanges in Gatlinburg (if this sweetens the pot
;))...IF I can exchange to Gatlinburg for that week, split the cost (it
will be the least expensive form of housing available) split grocery costs
and carpooling, would anyone be interested? Let me know...

Cassie;  I wish I could take you up on your offer to carpool to
Arrowmont!! I live in Rhode Island, which isn't too far away.  I got my
brochure yesterday, and the classes sound fabulous.  Only problem is
(besides convincing my DH to let me go; that's a formidable, but not
unsolvable problem!!!)
Arrowmont is being held at the beginning of the school year (I work in an
elementary school) and there's just no way for me to get that time of year
off !  If only it were being held in late August instead of early
Sept............
Are there other disappointed teachers and other school employees out there
who want to go to Arrowmont but can't because of their school schedule?
I'm sure I'm not the only one  :-(

I, too, would love to do Arrowmont, but I teach and can't go in Septmeber
either.  I went to MIPCES in NJ just a few weeks ago, and it was great!
Try that next year (although a year is a long time to wait!!).  Think we
could ever convince the Guild to hold an Arrowmont in the summer?  That
would be a dream come true!!!!!    Molly

I don't work in a school, but I have 2 children starting back to school
the week before Arrowmont, and one starting Preschool the week after.
That week in between is definately NOT one I can be away playing with
clay... so I too am very disappointed with the choice of dates.  Why
couldn't it have been Labor Day weekend - it would have been a great way
to end the summer.  Kathy

Yes, for years here I've been kvetching about these things being held
during the school year.....however, next June I am retiring so that will
finally make it possible for me to do the things I want to do when they
are offered.  Too bad the planners of these things (who continually state
that it has to be after the summer camps, etc. are done) can't realize
that they are losing a large segment of attendees......mamadude

I agree. I'm not a teacher, but anyone with children starting back to
school that week would not be able to take off  for a week. Even though
mine are 13 and 15, they still need Mom to make sure things go smoothly. I
wouldn't even mind if it were later in the school year, but not the week
school begins. I bet there are alot of us in the same boat. I would LOOOve
to go!!

I agree too.  The ONLY thing that is keeping me from attending is the
time.  I am a teacher.  It is just not possible to take a week of when
school begins.  I hope that the planners are lurking and will take these
comments into consideration.

Sally, and all those who've written similarly, *your complaints have been
heard!*
The next INTERNATIONAL conference on polymer clay, (The Return of the
Raven!) --Ravensdale '98, will be held again here in Seattle in AUGUST,
before school starts!  This should make it easier for all us parents and
schoolteachers, etc. to attend a polymer clay conference.  Look for
upcoming details, and if you have any other comments or suggestions, feel
free to e-mail me.

Hi Cassie,

Well, I live in Worcester, so I'm less than an hour away from you, and
I've been trying to figure out how I can go.  This could work! Please
email me, and we'll brainstorm ideas...

Hi Sally,
Yes, the planners are lurkin!.  We were restricted as to when we could
schedule the conference, and we are very sorry that it conflict with your
other obligations.  It was just a coincidence, rather than a ***,
that Ravensdale was also scheduled the first week of September.  Arrowmont
is such a great facility for a first time conference, we chose the very
best date available from their busy schedule.  We also needed to avoid
religious holidays and the heaviest craft show season.

all the best,

I'm so glad to read that I'm not the only one feeling this way!  My
daughter starts Kindergarten that week - what else can I say?

Happy*** - anyway!
