Drat!   I got into the chat room last Saturday, but for some reason  I
can't seem to get there today!   Computers!   Everything seems the same as
last week........Oh well maybe I'll  make it next week.

Wondering what I'm missing....

I got into the chat but could barely chat.  Java for the Macintosh is such
a memory hog.  It slows everything down.  I'm fine just lurking in the
chat.  I felt like the Elephant Man trying to respond.

No, I am not an animal...

It was enjoyable seeing what chat I was able to see.

One of these days...

Jim et al.,
According to the FAQ put out by SneakerChat (which is what the PCC web
site uses), their chat software is in fact not workable on a Mac.  So I
too am out of luck.  I tried many times to get on the Saturday chat
without success.  Also out of luck are folks who are not Java-enabled.

I have suggested that the chat be moved off the proprietary sw and be
held instead on DALNET, which *everyone* can use.  In fact a bunch of us
use a registered DALNET channel twice a week for poly-talk, and I
believe the channel would be open to other scheduled chats by
arrangement.  Waiting to hear from the Saturday group as to whether
they'd be willing to move to a more accessible site....

Fingers crossed,
MLBee

You know... I just can't see why it's not workable.  When there were only
a few people on, I could manage.  But  when more people joined.  The
curser/I (eye) bar kept jumping to the chat window...
DALNET is more universal.  That's if you want to wade through Babylon.  Or
is it Sodom and Gemorrah. ;)

And if everyone subscribed to the same Instant Message service.... well we
could conference that way.
I'm wondering if anyone is logging the chat.  It could be posted or made
available to other users?

Just wondering,
Jim

Saturday PCC chat

I couldn't attend the chat this Saturday, but I've done so in the pastand had
no trouble logging on.  I'm not at all familiar with DALNET, and I don't know
whether it would work for me becuase I'm on AOL..  I went to their home site
and got rather confused.  It seems I've got to download software, which isn't a
problem, but apparently AOLers can't use the ST Louis server, whatever that
means.  I'd like the chat to continue on PCC on Saturdays, with another one on
Sundays on Dalnet.  That way I know I'll at least be able to get into one of
them,  All the IRC and MIRC stuff is very confusing to me  Maybe someone could
explain this--I may need intensive tutoring

Me too, Roni....It is very frustrating to have gotten on once and two other
times I couldn't get on again!!   My provider is a small one and I could
have pulled my hair out with the "help" I got from them!!

Roni,

I am the one who set up this site for the Mon. and Wedns. chat. We also
chat on Sunday's now; Petra, our NZ buddie I believe is monitoring this
time period. Here are directions I have for downloading and logging on
with mIRC:

(directions Updated 1-15-98 by PattiClay)

First, get on the internet and either manually or via the "cut and
paste" function, type in and go to this website from which you will be
able  to download  the latest mIRC software:

http://www.FoundCollection.com/

Here, you will find several files that can be downloaded: The mIRC
cabinets are named mirc531s.exe (16bit) and mirc531t.exe (32 bit) or
whatever the latest 16 bit (for Windows 3.1) or 32 bit (for Windows 95),
are. As implied in the last sentence. The mirc5xxs.exe file contains the
six*** bit issue (for Windows 3.1), the mirc5xxt.exe file contains the
thirty-two bit issue (for Windows 95). These cabinets are
self-extracting executables. When you run them, the built-in mIRC
installer will be activated and help you to install or upgrade mIRC. You
will be able can download it for free (it is not "freeware" however, it
is "shareware"). Also look at their instructions for setting it up. I
don't remember it as being difficult, but if so, I will be glad to help
you.

After initial installation:

1.    For the chats, you need to first start your browser going,.
2.  Next, start mIRC. The "mIRC setup" screen should pop-up
automatically, but if not, go to "File" which will cause a set of drop
down menus to appear. Click on "set up".
3.  Choose a DALNET server. Some you can add, that are not offered on
the software are the following:

stlouis.mo.us.dal.net.irc - we all try to get on this one to minimize
problems
nether.mi.us.dal.net.irc
farside.tx.us.dal.net.irc
dragon.ut.us.dal.net.irc

4.  Click on one of theseTHEN go to the far left icon, of a lightning
bolt, and click on it.
5.  Click on "status" : you will see a small box at the lower left side
of your screen which says "status" click on it once, to see the status
of the connection process..if you see "*** Connection attempt timed
out... it just means its too busy. Try again, or try another one of the
servers I listed above.
6.  To try another server, you go to "file""disconnect", then
"file""setup" and pick another server and start again!
7.  #Polymerclay happens on Monday and Wednesday nights, 9-? ET.
(Usually 9-10, but we always seem to go overwonder why?). Petra, our NZ
buddie is also monitoring a chat on Sundays , approximately 1 PM ET
(this time frame frame may be incorrect, so check to be sure). This
should be enough  to get you started.E-mail me if you have any other
questions.

I've never joined the MIRC chats either because I didn't understand how to do
it. If I'm on AOL, is it still possible to get there? How?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can walk me through this!
