I have used a base of half white and half regular yellow (not the golden
yellow) then added bits of carmine until the color was right. If you cut
up the block into uniform pieces, you can add slowly and still have some
idea of the amount to use for a big batch. The tinting power of carmine
and all the reds is so high that it takes very little. Both the carmine
and the plain yellow are very clear colors--using red and golden yellow
will work, but the end color may be a little more muddy. You might also
try a blend of carmine and white, then add the yellow--it depends on what
kind of c***you want to end up with.
