What pens to use on clay?

What pens to use on clay?

Post by TFcreati » Sun, 01 Feb 1998 04:00:00

I would like to write and draw some designs on my polymer clay.  Does anyone
know of a permanent, non-smearing pen or marker that writes on the clay? I
would like to use black mainly, but also other ink colors. Any suggestions
appreciated.

Tami,

I use a permanent marker.  You can pay allot of money for one at a craft
store --about $3.  I also found one that was double sided at Kmart for
$1.69 with a rebate.  It has a real fine line and thicker one.  I use
them to draw eyes on unbarred faces and on some pre baked items.  If you
let it dry sufficiently it should do fine.  I also cover  with Future
afterwards to protect it.  I have also baked some afterwards and it just
seemed to settle into the clay more.  It did blurr a little, but looked
OK.  Hope this helps.

Berol Prismacolor Design markers work beautifully on cured clay.  Also, for a
softer look, Berol Prismacolor Colored pencils are wonderful!  Kathleen Dustin
uses both the markers and the pencils to draw and write on her pieces.
