Internet meet at Ravensdale

Hi all!
I have the chance to turn my mind to how we are all going to meet at
Ravensdale - those of us on the internet here in the newsgroup, etc.
Does anyone have any ideas on how you would like this event to happen?
We have the gamut of options as far as meeting space, but, perhaps you
would like to incorporate a swap into the meeting or something? It would
be a fun way to commemorate the meeting and the event.
Please let me know what you think as soon as you can.  I am ready to
plan, plan, plan!
  Thanks,
  Meredith

Well, I'malways ready for a snack so maybe be could have an ice cream "social"!
Every one could come with a name tag created for themselves out of polymer
clay in a favored technique. That way  we would be able to identify people by
their name and see their style as well!  You know, even if we don't do it as a
group, I think I'll do it for myself anyways!
Thanks for all your hard work.  Several of us in St. Louis are planning to
attend.  We just started our guild in December and it has been so exciting
learning from each other.  Lois Ockner

Thank you Lois!  We are always ready to hear that the effort is not only
wanted but appreciated, too.  We are in a planning vortex and don't get
to hear what people are saying out there very much so the feedback is
super appreciated!
I like your idea - how about anyone else out there?  This is for you!
Tell me what you would like for your meet!  If we plan it now, we have
the time to streamline the plan and so forth instead of trying to throw
it together at the last minute.
  Thanks all for your help,
  Meredith

Internet meet at Ravensdale

Well, at the first Ravensdale, we all meant to get together at lucnh, but time
ran away form us so about all that happened was a quick group photo. (Someone
agreed to send me a print, but I never got one... :^(   )

We mostly agreed to wear some kind of night-glow star, too, but many people
forgot or didn't have time to make anything.

At Arrowmont, to simplify things a bit, we tried to get everybody to put their
"screen identity" (name or e-mail address) on their regular name tags. (We
were supposed to use the name tags as ID for meals etc. so we actually WORE
them most of the time.) That was SORT of successful, but I don't think there
was any actual get-together...

Part of the problem is everybody wants to attend everything they can, so any
time there are classes and stuff, at least part of the group won't want to
break away. So if something is planned, I definitely suggest it be during a
no-conflict gap! (Maybe a reception sort of thing at night?) I wouldn't be
adverse (assuming I can finance another expensive trip -- my debt load is
scarey already!) to paying a small fee (like say $5 or so) for refreshments,
maybe the ice cream social or maybe dessert and coffee, for an internet
gathering.

Wow, just had a flash! What if this could be done when there is a net-access
computer available, and we could either post some "on the scene" notes from
the gathering, or maybe even have a chat session (not that *I* participate in
chat, it hurts my head too much!) with people who can't attend?! Kind of
answer questions from the folks at home?

(Maybe that's not realistic... but it's a thought.)

Probably at registration or at latest, when people sign in at the event, part
of the process should be making a list of net folks to post or otherwise make
available, so we can all see who might be around...

I wouldn't be in favor of a net swap at the event, though. For one thing, too
hard to know how many to make (might be a lot since the advertising for the
event hits a lot of us netters), and for another, it's hard enough to organize
and transport the tools and supplies needed, especially if we want to
particpate in any "shop" set up to sell stuff. A swap would seem like one
thing too many, I think. (Although maybe others would disagree.) (At most,
maybe "Ravensdale theme" beads??)

(I will say, though, just regular item for item swapping with other artists
who like to do that is one of MY favorite things to do in groups like this,
but that is on an informal level, and person to person -- meaning you don't
have to plan on doing more of it than you want, and you negotiate on an
individual basis for things you see ahead of time.)

I think we need to do something to get everyone together at Ravensdale.
I would love to meet some of my net friends!  I agree that we need
something simple.  Will there be name tags at Ravensdale?  If not, will
there be a registration table?  If we could have a special "internet"
sticker or even a special "internet" name tag available it might work.

I think we need to have an evening meeting.  I know I want see and do
as much as possible.  And since there is a 24 hour workspace... maybe
there?

Hoping and praying I manage to make it to Ravensdale this year!

That sounds like fun!  So *that's* why you were labeled the "Swap
Queen" in the POLYinforMER!

My kids were in a club that met statewide every year and nationwide
every few years, and the biggest thing was swapping--mostly those big
buttons with area-specific logos on them.  They had a great time.

Now that you've mentioned this, I think I'll make up something I can
swap when I get there--I still have my savings account with $ in it,
planning to go (if the IRS doesn't get me first).  Maybe we potential
swappers should all wear a pin that says something like, "Will swap!"
or "Member Swapoholics Anonymous"...
