Game piece swap?

Game piece swap?

Post by LynnD » Wed, 14 May 1997 04:00:00

Does a game piece swap sound like a do-able thing?  Just thought of
it, since I'm missing the little "men" in lots of my games--you know,
the red, blue, green and yellow things that you move on the board.
Are they called game pieces?  Sorry, it's way past my bedtime and
dysnomia, for me, is the first symptom of imminent dreams.

ZZzzzzz,

Actually, a game piece swap sounds interesting.  More details, please!!  I
might be interested...

The game pieces could be people, or animals, or beads on a stand, or
any little shape that can stand up by itself.  It would be more of a
sculpture project than a cane project, but caned items would certainly
be OK.

Is this too broad?  If I swapmeistered this, the deadline would be mid
August, as I can't breathe until then.

I was thinking 15 maximum, 8 minimum, swappers.  If these are actually
going to be used as game pieces, the size would need to be limited.
Let me get out my ruler tomorrow and check sizes.

What do you think? (Brainstorming, way past my bedtime again).

Hmmm, sounds quite interesting.  I would most definitely want to
participate.

I'd be interested in this, too. Would the pieces have a theme, or just
be open to what ever one wanted to make? A certain size, I know,
but just anything?

Hi fellow pen swappers!

My pens finally arrived today! Hooray! They are GREAT!

My favorites are Patti's snowman pen, Becky's giraffe pen, and especially
Lisa's bear pen (adorable!)--but all of them were creative and wonderful!
We have such talented people here!

Thanks for sharing your terrific work, and thanks to Cindy for
swapmeistering!

Happy claying!

maybe in order to make it less broad, find out what types of game pieces
people need (monopoly, random game pawns, figure looking pieces, etc, etc,
ad nauseum).
Obviously, I am interested, and it seems to me you will be
swapmeistering.  Keep me informed.

If you got together 16 people, or 32, you could do a chess or checkers
set... I'm not sure what you have in mind exactly.  Can you be more
specific?

How about limiting size to no more than two inches; no less than 3/4
of an inch? Pieces could be based on any theme. Monopoly style pieces;
Candyland pieces, somebody could do slices of pie for a Trivial
Pursuit Game.

Help!!!  I've fallen into a swap and I can't get out!

Chess or checkers is an interesting thought, but the logistics are
scary.  "You do pawns, & you do rooks, & you do queens", etc.--how
would you do it?  I guess you'd have to let the swapees figure it out
when their "haul" came in.

We could go for 16, but I wonder 32 would be too daunting.

I was thinking of random game pawns of the figure sort.

I'm trying to come up with a great motivating theme.  Trouble is, I'm
back to work again--the great brain drain (sometimes)--after a month
vacation, and I'm in polymer clay withdrawal.  (I decided to give up a
couple hours sleep a night to clayplay instead.  Well, actually, I
didn't sit down and say, "Hmmm, I think I'll trade a couple of snooze
hours for clay hours--" it just happens that way, as ya'll know...)

Any suggestions for a theme?

Well, what about checkers then?  I agree chess would be hard to
coordinate, but checkers, hey.  Half  the peices light colored and half
dark and all about the same size, and you've got it.  If you want to keep
it down to 16, everybody could send one light and one dark.

Or how about peices from an imaginary game?   Everybody contributes peices
and then we all try to name the game when we get the collection of
different peices?  Those would be display items more than real game
peices, but naming the game would be fun!  Probably we would want to set a
size so the peices would sorta go together.

Oh, what the heck; if CJ wants in, count me in, too.
Hey, Crabykitty, how about it? Want in?

"... Monopoly?  Would it be fun -- to do also those hotels and houses and
stuff? "

How much rent would you collect for Tennessee with a cute little
 Bed & Breakfast?
