Please help -- mail order source for magnetic sheeting?

Post by Andrew Ry » Wed, 11 Sep 1996 04:00:00

Hello all,

I am trying to obtain magnetic sheeting, i.e. the kind one would use to
make one's own refrigerator magnets with. I am told it is readily available
and is sold in art supply houses, but I called all the art supply houses
close to my home and no one carried it. While there's probably somewhere
I can get it in the Bay Area I wouldn't have any idea where, and so I'm
asking if anyone knows of a mail order source that might carry magnetic
sheeting.

Thanks,

andrew

You don't need to go to an art shop.  Any signmaking shop will carry
magnetic sheeting.  Check your yellow pages under signs.  Shops here in
Vancouver, BC carry it in rolls 2 feet wide and sell it by the foot right
off the roll.  Canadian prices I've seen range between $4.95 - 12.95 a
foot.  Works out to mere pennies a square inch.  Magnetic sheeting comes
with 2 types of backing - adhesive and plastic.  The adhesive backing is
convenient because you just need to peel off the paper and stick it to the
main part of the fridge magnet. However I was warned by the clerk that it
might not stick too well to fimo, so I bought the plastic backed type and
used superglue to attach my designs.

Sorry, I don't think sign shops will sell by mail order.

Vicki

I just bought magnetic sheets at Michaels Craft Store (I know this
chain is on the west coast, not sure of any where else).  It was $2.29
a sheet and is self-adhesive.  Works great.  Made magnets with it
today.  Note:  I had to ask where they were as I had not been able to
find them.  This is flexible sheeting that can be easily cut with
scissors to whatever shape or design you want.

Info on package:

CraftMAGic MAGNETIC  SHEET     5" x 8" with high tack
adhesive.  Ideas and free patterns are inside the package.  It can be
decorated with fabric, fur, felt, wooden cutouts, ribbon, lace,
decals, stickers, photos, emblems, needlecrafts, feathers, pom poms,
etc. etc.  Any material will adhere directly to the adhesive surface.

Manufacturer:

     MSI MAGNETIC SPECIALTY, Inc.
     707 Gilman Street
     Marietta, OH 45750
     (614) 373 1558

Hope this helps.

Remember to keep the magnets away from your computer.

Mary

thought i posted this once.. but i don;t believe it did it right,.. oops
and sorry if it comes thru twice!magnetic sheeting suppliers?

check your business to business yellow pages under magnets.. it is much
cheaper than anyplace you can get it by the foot.. lasts for ever..I think
i worked it out once to some where around 10 cents a square inch.

look in a big city near you.. in Baltimore i get it from
Jobmaster   410.655.1400

don;t know if they ship or not.. but it is a comercial magnet place..
remember tho... it is VERY heavy!!!  shipping will probably kill you..

it is great fun to play with.!

PS.. if you have kids to entertain  .. give 'em some plain label
material.. let them draw a picture on it  and stick it to the magnet.. cut
out with a scissors.. presents for everyone.. the bigger the better..
