miniature lighting - please help

I would like to illuminate my sandblasted glass sculptures but can't find
the right sort of lighting.  Needs to fit in a 8" x 5.5" x 1.5" (or
there abouts) wood base.  Tried commercial cabinet lighting
(incandescant) but it gets way too hot.  Would prefer flourescent but
haven't found a system small enough. Any help or suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

Have you looked in gift shops that sell glass paperweights?  There are
commercial bases and maybe their manufacturers have more variety than just the
paperweight sized ones, if you could see thei catalogs.

While looking in an electic supply store for under-cabinet lighting for
my kitchen, I came across some minature lights imbedded in clear platic
tubes. Businesses use them for window borders, etc. The are relatively
cheap and burn cool, but cannot be replaced individually if one burns
out. (I opted for small halogen lamps for my kitchen, but they are
pricey, hot, and require a 12 volt transformer.)
