Anybody have access to Virginia's instructions

Post by Rachael Inn » Thu, 03 Nov 1994 09:51:45

Hi all,
I, like many of the other readers, loved seeing all of ***ia's
instructions.  A lot of folks have inquired about how to get access to
her stuff now that she is no longer posting to rec.crafts.misc.  I was
wondering
if there is a way to get them.  I have Mosaic and access to the
Internet only.  Is there any mailing list?  Any ftp sites?  Is anyone
who has access to her Delphi postings willing to post them here, or
email them to me?  I sure miss the new craft ideas, and hope people
will start reposting them.

Thanks,
Rachael

***ia copyrights all her postings, so I don't know how she'd feel about
that.  If she gives permission, I could probably manage to email them... but
you might email her and see if *she'll* email them, before anything else.

I have tons of hers that I've been downloading from Delphi,
unfortunately most are copyrighted and I'd have to have her permission
to post them here.  I will ask her if it would be alright to e-mail
them, since she isn't posting or you could e-mail her at Delphi...

I have spoken to ***ia directly about this issue.  She has pleaded with
me NOT to post any of her directions here, for fear of upsetting those
that would complain yet again about her posts.  It has nothing to do with
copyrights; it has everthing to do with the response that she received
here.

I just had an idea...I wonder if ***ia would be willing to e-mail us
a list of projects she has available, and then e-mail instructions to us
for the ones we request. That's a lot of work for her, and I don't know
why she should want to, but I REALLY miss being able to use her ideas.
I would like to see a list, because I don't always know I want something
until I see it! ;-)
What do you think?

I have just emailed ***ia asking if it would be okay if someone
could email her instructions to me.  Maybe, those of us on
rec.crafts.misc that don't have access to her Delphi instructions could
work together to distribute the information to each other without
posting so she won't feel like she may be responsible for offending the
few who don't want them.  I don't know much about mailing lists, and if
it is possible for anyone to set one up.  It seems like a lot of work
to ask ***ia to mail each of us her instructions.  So, what about
gathering a list of all of those folks who want the information, and
setting up a system where the first person who gets the information
sends them to 5 people, and each of those 5 people send 5 others, and
so on.  I would be happy to keep a list and let everyone know who they
are to send the information to.  After I receive an answer from
***ia from my first letter, and if people are interested in this
idea, I will send her another request.

Not only is that a lot of work, it also gets to be quite an expense for
her.  Perhaps you or an interested friend could consider an account on
Delphi, where she continues to post directions on a regular basis.

Actually, Delphi provides a pretty handy way to do just exactly that... you
can set up a distribution list and send each email just once.  It's not one
of Delphi's best-publicized features (they don't want people spamming large
groups over and over), so ***ia may not know about it.  You might mention
it to her if you're emailing her.

Yeah, and the ironic part is that by my estimation, less than one half
of one percent of the readership (assuming Karen Cravens is being honest
about the folks she said wrote her in support) is basically holding the
group hostage.

So, never mind that over 99.5% of us (based on an admittedly skewed
sample) want the instructions.  The remaining .5% have been ***
enough to leave her feeling completely unwelcome.  Apparently, from
what I've heard, that remaining .5% wasn't content with just ***ing
at her on the newsgroup: they went so far as to flame her in email.

Were I in ***ia's shoes, I'd probably just say "To heck with it"
and stop posting, too.

Of course, I haven't seen much of interest from that .5% who was
complaining, but then again, it seems logical that what I would find
of interest is *NOT* what they would find of interest.  I figure that
if I want idle chitchat, I can get that on hundreds of random groups.

Oh, well. <yawn>  I guess I had better stop before I get flamed by
Betty or Karen for actually adding content to the group.

Mea Culpa.

Teri, I haven't flamed anyone.  I've *been* flamed, simply for politely
expressing the opinion that it *might* be nice to do things a different way...
I didn't even suggest that ***ia stop posting the way she was if we couldn't
find a different way.  As I've said before, the hostility expressed amazed me.
Granted, I missed the message that started it all, but it didn't seem to make
sense to me that people would assume that anyone *else* who might feel even
remotely close to what the original posted expressed (however badly) was
automatic flamebait.  Were I in ***ia's position, I'd have withdrawn from
the newsgroup too, just to avoid being associated with the vitriol that was
being spewed in my/her *defense*.
