Embossing -- Help!!

Does anyone know if you can use ANY ink pad to do embossing with??  Can
Embossing powder go bad??  I've embossed before, but its been a couple of
years.   I tried to emboss my daughters footprints and all the powder did
was blow away!  My daughter is 2.5 weeks.....and they didn't footprint her
in the hospital, so I went to the LSS store and bought a PINK ink pad and
BLACK SPARKLY Embossing powder.  WHAT DID I DO WRONG?? LADIES??
GENTLEMEN?? ( if there are any here)

HELP!!!!

Rhonda...
You need to color the section that  you want to emboss with an embossing pen
(you can get clear ones) that is what makes the powder mesh onto the paper.
Just a regular stamp pad won't let the powder adhere.
Congrats on the new baby.. hope you get some sleep soon!

Well... what I would do is "stamp" like normal with your stamp pad..then I
would take the clear embossing pen and go over the inside of the foot and toes
with it (the whole area more or less..remember where you don't use the pen you
don't get powder) ..then sprinkle the embossing powder all over it.then use
your embossing gun....

You have to use embossing ink pad (top boss - or other brands) or a pigment ink
pad (color box is what I use).  Regular dye ink drys to fast on the paper and
the embossing powder won't stick to it.  Embossing ink has a mixture of H2o and
water that causes it to dry slowly.  You can get these at your michaels store
or hobby lobby.  :)

This would be good if there were'nt sooooo many lines on/in her foot that I
would have to avoid coloring!

I'm not particularly a stamper but I did have someone tell me once to
breathe--warm moist breath--hard to describe without sounding out in
space---kinda 'huff'--on the stamped image, then sprinkle the powder on.
Your warm breath ever-so-slightly moistens the ink so the powder sticks.
