Ideas for Pine Cone Crafts?

Ideas for Pine Cone Crafts?

I'm new to this discussion group but from what I've seen you are the
people to help me.  I have hundreds of spruce pine cones courtesy of
trees on my property.  I've made wreaths, trees, and pine cone
baskets.   I'm out of ideas and would like to find something new to do
with all of the cones cluttering up my yard.  Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.  Please feel free to e-mail me at

Thanks!!

I have seen directions for using them as fire starters to put in fireplaces,
and also have heard of using them as Christmas Tree decorations.  Just glue a
ribbon on the bottom and hang on the tree, could be sprayed with gold or silver
or just left as is.  The fire starters (although I don't know if that is what
they are called) were in a craft magazine I saw once.  You somehow use a wick,
and tie it on, then dip them in some sort of wax.  Don't have the directions,
just remember reading about them.  Hope this helps.

I work at a preschool and we are always in need of pine cones, if you
can't use all that you have see if one of your local preschools could
use them.

Sandy,

That sounds like a really good idea. I have a lot of pine cones from neighbors
trees,  I get a lot in my yard and keep them.  This isn't the same thing I
remember seeing though.  The other ones used a wick, sounded like they used
them to help light a fire in the fireplace, don't think they used scented wax.
