First Post (long)- SD Gundam Fan need help, Hobby Japan DEC 2001

A big hello to everyone, I am extremely e***d to finally located an
English-speaking Gundam modelling forum that is ACTIVE. I had recently
signed up for a similar themed HK-based Chinese speaking forum but the
responses to my posts have been discouragingly little, I hoped it
won't be the case with this forum ^_^.

Anyway, just want to let everyone know that I have been a fan of
Gundam for 8years starting with my first BB senshi zaku set (can't
exactly remember the number except that the set came with 2 zakus in
it). More specifically, I am a fanatic loyalist of the SD(or BB)
gundams series.

Anyway, on to my main topic: the SD ZAKU II Kit#218.  recently bought
a copy of Hobby Japan March 2002 issue from my local Towers Record
store, and on a black-white announcement page opposite pg 92, there is
a picture of the #218 SD Zaku II, equpipped with Bazooka, Machine gun,
Heat Hawk, Panzerfausts, Grenades, twin-missile pods that attach to
the legs, shields, shoulder plates variants. That is certainly more
than what the standard SD Zaku kit carries, so I am sure that it is a
converted piece. But that picture certainly got me VERY interested and
told myself that I have to make myself a squad of those fully-equipped
SD Zakus. I noticed that under the model's picture, there is a
reference (most of it are in Japanese of which I do not know) to Hobby
Japan Issue December 2001 . Does anyone have this issue? I am hoping
that there is a "how-to" article featuring that conversion work. I
hope no one would think that I am simply a whinning low-life who is
unreasonably demanding pple to rip off their magazine. I would have
bought the issue if it was available locally. But I only want that
specific article and wouldn't want to mail-order the entire magazine
for only a few pages.  If anyone have those issue and is kind enough
to scan the article on that SD Zaku, I would be eternally grateful. I
am at Denver, Colorado and the only place that have the HJ magazine is
TowerRecord, where the only copy of HJ is the MArch issue I bought,
and they do not do special order for back issues=(

I am sure that there will be others like me in this forum who would
also want to make a fully equipped Sd Zaku. I especially want to know
how to make those foot-atached missile pods.

Oops, I am afraid that my first posting is a bit too long and hope
that I did not acquire the collective wraith of the forum with my
long-windedness.

There's a two page spread on the SD Zaku in that issue, but no conversion
details -- just finished pictures with different armaments and some head
detail shots. (They show the leg mounted missles unattached.)

For the missile pods and other weapons, you might want to try the older SD Zaku
II, G-Generation Zero #18.

http://www.FoundCollection.com/

It hasn't got the straps that attach the missile pods to the legs as in the
anime, but it's got the pods themselves, and also the machine gun, bazooka,
heat hawk, cracker grenades and even the Magella cannon, which looks awfully
cute. Looks like it's got parts for a High Mobility Zaku also. I don't know
about the panzerfausts.

Really?wow, would you be so kind to provide a scan of those two pages
if its not too much trouble to you, i really want to take a look. by
the way, I noticed on your site ( a very enjoyable site indeed), that
HJ Issue September 2001 #387 features a diaroma with an SD Zaku Vs a
RX79G w/GM Head? Is that a converted SD GM? I have been dying to get
GMs for my SD platoon. Would you mind scanning that article page too
for me? I know I am asking a bit too much for a newly-joined member
but I am dying to see those sd articles. I think the others would be
interested in SD articles too right? Thank you SO much.

So, does anyone know if the missile-pods from the older Zaku II
full-equipped kit fits the newer #218 SD Zaku II? I need to know this
beofre I start on a SD buying spree =)

thanks.

It might be possible.  Just bear in mind that the newer SD Zaku's got no
legs (Lt. Dan) - but if you don't mind attaching the missile pods to the sides
of the SD Zaku's (very large) feet, you might just be in business.  Of course,
if the parts are unaltered then the answer is "no".

I like the newer SD Zaku.  I think it looks very, very nice.  The older
one's got a bit more of a "classic Zaku" look with the low-detail backpack and
the smooth legs, but it also has that vaguely sock-monkey aspect leftover from
the super-old Gundam kits.  The newer one just looks more "Zakuish" to me.

(Side note:  Got my Gelgoog Marine and Zaku FZ today!  Yay!  FZ kit is
better than I expected)

Mess-yeah! Another sd fan! Have you gotten the sd THE-O? That thing rocks!
From what i've seen of the new Zaku, i like the old one better. One of these
days, I have to buy another one and put in a led.

It is better to feel love and express it than never love and regret it.

Hmmm this may be cheaper than my 1/144 german styled zeon squad :)  I
might look into buying a whole bunch of old zak's and kampfers...

In any case, I believe the old rocket pods had a simple bracket with a
whole in the middle.  This bracket would then go over the foot post
and into the main body, like how those little lego armor pieces fit
over the head post of the lego man :)
