Hello all,
I need to purchase a reference book on oriental marks, can anyone recommend a
favorite?  Leaning more towards Japanese, so if anyone knows of either or if
there are books that combine them into category Oriental, would appreciate
title?
I bought 2 books a few years ago, let me say I should have taken a closer look
at one of them.  Turned out to be one of those reference books devoted to the
little knick knack collectibles, you know, the salt & pepper, stupid little
napkin vases and such.  Sorry to anyone that collects that, I just have a
strong dislike for that type pottery.  Oh, if anyone really does collect that
stuff let me know, maybe I'll let you have it, it does me absolutely no good!

Why would you need such a book? Do you have the ability to read Japanese and
other oriental marking? Or do you really mean, oriental export ware?

I think "made in ........... " would suffice.

Good God woman! catch a grip of yourself.

Let's see, I'll put it another way, can anyone recommend a book on oriental
marks, the same type of reference book of marks as say Kovel's?  Does that make
it clearer?
Thanks to all,
Joan

OK, I think I've got it.  You need a book on Asian fall guys or patsys,
right?  The only Asian patsy I'm aware of is Patsy Mink.  She is listed in:
"Contemporary American Success Stories: Famous People of Asian Ancestry."
Dalip Singh Saund; Patsy T. Mink; Daniel Ken Inouye; Yoshiko Uchida; Haing
ngo...

hope this helps,

Yeesh, I meant a book on oriental marks, that was all.  As for "Made in...",
now I wouldn't need a book on Oriental marks for that would I? ;^)
"Catch a grip of myself"?  Hmmm, guess some Special K would definitely be in
order eh? LOL

Uh, Mr. Maxson, I think perhaps your taking question a bit to literal, as in
"watching to many old who-done-it movies", no? ;-)   Now if you were talking
Minerva Mink from WB I would have to disagree, she is most notably known for
her *** seductress looks and most assuredly not in the Asian ethnic category,
more the rodent category I would have to say.

I'm not calling you names, I am stating an opinion.

You need to re-consider what you're asking .... Western junk? ... or Imperial?
It's an easy question, none too provoking I hope.

If it's western export any old book will do .... if it's Imperial, why in the
name of  hell would you need such a book?

Have you considered taking up charity work in the soup kitchens? ... help get
you out of the house on an evening.

Ronnie, just forget it, obviously this isn't a question you particularly want
to answer so just go back to whatever you were doing (probably pulling wings
off of insects) and I'll ask elsewhere.

Unfortunately Ronnie, that messageboard has been taken over by spammers, they
have been trying to stem the tide but have failed, last two times I tried to
access my browser got overloaded & failed.  As for the address change, I am
sorry that I did not update the address.
Now in answer to your query "Or would you rather just post silly ***in'
questions everyday?"
The answer is yes, I think I would, the more I think about it the more I like
the idea of posting silly questions here everyday.  Why thank you very much
Ronnie, I really hope I can measure up to your standards of silliness.
Crossing my fingers tightly, hoping with all my might that I don't disappoint
you!

Joan,

I have the book Oriental Antiques & Art by Sandra Andacht, and while it is not
specifically a book on marks, it does have many pages devoted to them.  There is a
lot of other information of interest including artists signatures, publisher's
marks, pronunciations, etc.
